Today's Guests: Declan Hill, Tim Vickery and Andy Brassell
---
Declan Hill, Investigative Journalist (http://www.declanhill.com/), Author (http://www.howtofixasoccergame.com/), Canaaaadian (Irish too, but that's not so funny a clip).
Declan Hill is an investigative journalist, documentary maker and academic. He specializes in the study of organized crime and international issues. His recent book ‘The Fix: Soccer & Organized Crime’ examined the corruption at the heart of international football and has become a best-seller in eight languages. Before publishing ‘The Fix’ he completed documentaries on the killing of the head of the Canadian mafia, blood feuds in Kosovo and ethnic cleansing in Iraq. He has also made documentaries in Kurdistan, Bolivia, India, Mexico, and Turkey.
Declan has worked for CBC Radio ("Ideas", "Tapestry", "Dispatches", "The Current", "Iraq Unit") CBC Television ("the fifth estate", "Disclosure", "Newsworld" and "Newsworld International") and "PBS Frontline". His programs and articles have appeared on BBC Radio World Service and BBC Radio 4: the Guardian and the Sunday Telegraph (London), as well as various new media outlets. In the last few years, Declan was a Chevening Scholar at Green College, University of Oxford where he obtained his doctorate on the study of match-fixing in professional football.

Tim Vickery (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Vickery), Columnist (http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/timvickery/) and a god.
The son of a reasonably skilled amateur footballer, Tim Vickery inherited all of the enthusiasm and none of the talent. But the game helped to hone his literary skills; despite never making it out of England until his mid-20s he could spell Czechoslovakia (a sadly redundant skill these days) by the age of 7 - all based on the fact that they had made it to two World Cup finals.
Since 1994 he has been based in Brazil, and he covers South American football for the BBC, World Soccer magazine, Sports Illustrated and SBS in Australia.
---
Andy Brassell, Author (http://www.allornothingbook.com) and also a god.
Andy Brassell is a freelance writer and broadcaster on European football. He is resident European football expert on BBC FiveLive Up All Night's World Football show, and has contributed to a number of other radio shows, magazines, websites and television programmes whilst covering football all over the continent. The author of ‘All Or Nothing; A season in the life of the Champions League’, Andy speaks four languages and lives in Lyon, France with his wife and their pet Valencian bat. He has also DJed extensively around London and the north-east, and now forms one half of the acclaimed Gumbo DJ collective.

Today's Guests: Bobby McMahon, Declan Hill, Bura Demirbag
---
Bobby McMahon, football analyst (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobby_McMahon) and blogger (http://community.foxsports.com/blogs/BobbyMcMahon) for Fox, and the guy who refuses to give up Michelle Lissel's (http://www.zoominfo.com/people/Lissel_Michelle_1156736896.aspx) phone number (there will be a reckoning for that).
Bobby McMahon is a correspondent for Fox Soccer Report, and covers primarily the Premiership for World Soccer Daily. He joined Fox Soccer Report in September 2001 and started writing a weekly column for FoxSoccer.com on MSN in August 2004.
Bobby fell in love with football at the age of four. He played at the school and youth level, before going on to play for Tayport, then one of Scotland’s top amateur teams, and was selected for a Scottish Amateurs team trial. He also had a brief spell at the junior level. (Junior football is a unique Scottish institution, one step below the Scottish League structure, with no age restrictions.)
A Quote from Bobby: A life-long Dundee supporter my greatest memories relate to Dundee winning the Scottish League in the sixties and their European adventures thereafter. Although I find it difficult to admit, I also fondly remember Dundee United beating Barcelona and Juventus around the same time. My greatest football thrill however, was attending my first Scotland-England game at Hampden Park, Glasgow, with nearly 130,000 close personal friends and two Englishmen in attendance.

“Bura” Demirbag (http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/profile.php?id=537335045&ref=profile), Blogger (http://www.worldsoccerdaily.com/archives/category/wsd-bloggers/the-turkish-football-blog-with-bugra) and correspondent on Turkish Football ( http://z9.invisionfree.com/WSW/index.php?showtopic=11391), and awed by the passion of some fans, even if they aren’t Besiktas.
Bura fell in love with football in Turkey, although he currently resides in Sheffield. He has been a regular contributor to the BBC’s World Football Phone In show, and during Euro 2008, he wrote a column for Gözcü, a football newspaper in Turkey. He supports Leicester City FC in English football and Besiktas in Turkey.

The news I just got is "they (Sirius and FM) are working on it" but there is not time frame yet. There's an issue with getting them on the appropriate channel during their time slot, so the show might end up on a "Best of Sirius" channel, or something like that.
I'll make a point of announcing it when I hear a definite date.

Hmm...iTunes doesn't seem to be showing it yet, which happens occasionally. You can DL it directly here (feed://www.worldsoccerweekly.com/audio.xml).
[edit] It's up on iTunes, don't know why it doesn't auto download. Matt may have to kick it after he gets back from the remote broadcast.

When can we get this show to be live during evening drive-time. I'm tired of having to listen to Giorgio and Charlie after champions league matches or a replay of the show talking about what might happen after the results are in.

They do have phones on the remote today, woot. 1-866-967-6144 is the number today.

I haven't heard any suggestion that the broadcast time will change. They've been on this window since they moved to Daily (rather than Wednesday or Sat Night, for those who can remember that far back) and I doubt that will change unless either a major window on Sirius opens up or they become sponsored by a major media entity.
Tezza
15 Apr 2009, 01:36 PM
Well the show is aired as a replay during this time....but being that it is a show about current events it often replays in the evening with a show that is talking about what might happen in the games that have already happened that day. I'm sure the lads wouldn't mind having the opportunity to hear the days events and comment on them as they happen versus what happened yesterday.
Anyway...I wasn't really expecting it to change but I thought I'd throw it out there as I love to listen daily but often I have to tune out because what they are saying is irrelevant after you know the result. It's actually a question for Sirius/XM I guess. I suppose the afternoon listening audience is greater than drive-time.
WoodyinCU
15 Apr 2009, 05:04 PM
I hear ya, Tezza. Of course "drive time" differs depending on your location, but it's really a Sirius question, and XM when they get up on that (sometime in May I last heard). During big game days there's more of a timing issue than during normal days when they and the callers dicuss the games already played.

16 Apr 2009, 09:59 AM
Yeah I guess it just seems like an awkward time for the show to air. Either first thing in the morning or early evening would work. You wouldn't want to be up against Stern in the morning so I figured the evening would work better. Ie...The Football Show..which I cringe listening to because Stillitano kisses Giorgio's ass and as great a player as Giorgio was...his comments are virtually void of substance. That show airs at 5pm eastern. WSD is a way better show in my opinion.
