I noticed some Salvadorans tired of big losses in the past have been disalusioned of the ES team. I hear a lot crap like ES es una Mir*#d@, always negative about the team. but some of those people are rooting for the team and believing in the team now. But I see a lot more Salvies jumping on the bandwagon if we beat Mexico. I curious to see if some how many fans jump out the bandwagon if we loose to Mexico. I just making an observation on how most sports fans dont know squat, and when a team wins all of a sudden they think theyre great and know everything about the team.

Like the sudden influx of member and posters on here? I know I've been here less than a year, but I would always come on here and catch some news on the team, but since December there's been a lot more traffic. Comes with any team. You lose, no one follows you, when you win you're all of a sudden relevant. You either bleed blue and white, or you only care when they win.

You're always going to have bandwagoners. It's just the way it goes. It's why you'll see more people posting here or trying to follow the team. Success attracts attention, failure just invites negativity.

Can't speak for others, but in my case, I'm more of a casual ES fan. You'll usually see me post here when I can remember, and that's for major games. I have a hard time finding information and I end up relying on info I find here on BS. If I followed the Salvadoran league and the players like I do with MLS and the US team, it'd make things much easier.

Maybe I'll stick around. I like supporting this team, even when they're not succeeding. :)

How many of you guys are going to SLC in September to watch USA vs. ES. I'll be on a school visit (BYU), on around that date and wanted to know if there any others that would like to jump on the ES bandwagon?

Let me tell you my opinion about this stupid issue:

I think most humans want to be part of the winning team, no matter in which aspect of life. Our poor team has always been under the most poor management not to mention the LMF teams which, IMO, are in a worse shape.
Enter globalization. People start to hear, read, and watch matches thru modern communication. Great teams such as Milan, Fiorentina, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Boca Juniors are a treat for the aficionado and start to compare our archaic structures, to those million dollar mountains out there.
What happens?
People start to take this foreign -ALIEN if you will- teams, as if they were their own. We lost our identity. We lose what I remember as a kid: "Los domingos son del futbol nacional".
But speaking of our national team:
People expect to see a Spain, Germany, Brazil.
What they dont understand is that, no matter how bad we play, no matter how many games we win or lose, we should always stand by la selecta. Why? Because it's my team, your team. OUR country's team.

People who say la selecta shouldnt be in this hex. Or that they will be the laughingstock of this stage, those people don't deserve to be called Salavdoreños, cause in the end they are just cowards "matando su chucho a tiempo"

This is sad... but, 99% of my family, still don't cheer or believe in El salvador, going to the WC. i tell them ES, has come a long way, ever since los cobos, took over the challenge/job, 2-years ago. i don't blame them(my family, bandwagers), this is the first time a coach has lasted this long in the bench for ES, ever since the year 1982 i was reading.

JUST ASK YOURSELF.. would you be here right now posting/reading.. if ES wasn't playing the final HEX.

I play soccer twice a week with Salvatruchas. I've noticed that more of them are wearing the ES jersey.

Two Saturdays ago only four of us showed up at our usual game time. Mexico and Costa Rica were playing that day, with ES and USA to follow. The next day I learned that my soccer mates' usual policy is that they will watch the first few minutes of an ES game, and once they're down by two they go do something else. Well, this time they didn't go down by two...

Because I've seen my soccer mates' attitude become more positive, I will not celebrate a Mexican victory against ES (if/when it comes) as happily as I would celebrate one under normal circumstances. I hope you guys make it to South Africa. Take USA's spot, if you want... not like they'll be missed. :)

Agreed.

I think that point was most evident when we played our home leg against Panama last year. Once they scored their goal, there were a lot of people that bad mouthed the team and logged off. The true supporters stayed on and cheered the team on. After the game was over, everyone came back all happy that we'd won, and happy to continue supporting the team. But at that moment, i lost what respect i had for them as they let their true colors shine through.

But like it or not, there will always be bangwagoners like this. When we win, you won't be able to get them to stop talking about the team; but when we lose, it'll be like we don't even exist. Most of the time you can tell who's real and who's not, especially if you talk to someone first hand or go watch a game live. That's where you can see the difference between a true supporter and a fake one. In here though, it's pretty hard to tell. Although i'd be willing to say atleast 50% of the people on here are bangwagoners (basing myself soley on some of the things they say and the times that they actually post). Although this really isn't that bad considering if you look over at the EBC boards, the percentage is much much higher.

You're right, most people wouldn't be here.

But some of us would stay. I know i'd be here. Even if it was just to report on the LMF :D

I don't think "bandwagon' applies to ES fans. Let me explain.

Bandwagon ,say, Manchester united fans will cheer for united only when the team wins, because they might be glory hogs or because they are casual fans.

However in ES, it is waaay different. We know we can play, but the bad management and corruption ticked some of us off so much that it drove us to the edge and away, not wanting to know anything else of this "team"

The other thing is that ES always wins one game great, then loses miserably and did I mention corruption in the management? I think I did.

There is no ES bandwagon, just a bunch of pissed off fans, who after years are ready to be naive again and hope to believe in a team, even though (once again), the team almost disintegrated when they didn't get paid last month. We are tired of not having a team, I was cheering for argentina all this time for crying out loud, Iv'e had to cheer light blue, but there is no feeling that even comes close to cheering for our beloved REAL DARK BLUE!

In my opinion, "true fans" don't let ongoing corruption, mismanagment or bad form get them down. They don't get ticked off when the team loses miserably or is ranked 150th in the world, cause realistically, that's when they need us the most. It shouldn't matter if we make the World Cup or even if we are ranked in the best six in the region. A true fan doesn't care about that; if it happens it's a bonus, but it's not the reason why they support this team over any other.

It's actually pretty simple, i mean if you still love, support and cheer the team on in the bad times aswell as the good, then IMO you're a true supporter. If not, then your just a fan looking to ride on our recent success.

so basically anyone who has less than "so and so" posts isn't a true fan? I'm assuming it'd be hard to judge "die hard" of a fan they are over the internet.

Couldn't disagree more. The thing is, its good to support your team in good times and bad, but this ES situation is ridiculous. We are better than this, and the management has put out an excuse of a team for years, not paying whoever is playing, and it is just immoral to cheer on such a lie as if everything were allright.
It has been a fake product for years and if you support that, then you are not supporting progress or change and all that just to call yourself a die hard fan. Don't get confused with the bandwagon metaphor, it simply doesn't fit in this case, there are too many outside factors on the situation.

With that said, if ES was actually doing everything they can in a real management and a real team, and they still lose, that is where you support them in bad times, see the difference?

No, i don't.

I didn't say we ignore the problems, i just said that the problems shouldn't stop us from supporting the team. You can still support your team and at the same time dislike the federation that mismanages it. Why do the players and the national team as a whole have to suffer and lose our support when they always go out on the pitch and give it their all? If you have a problem with FESFUT, then hate on FESFUT, don't take it out on the team and it's players. If we were to only give our full support to the team when FESFUT cleans up it's act, then we'd be waiting for a LONG time.

I know so many of these so called bandwagon fans. It's sad to be honest, but hey it's part of life really. I for one have always, cheered the National team on. I can't remember how many times, i was in tears and my uncles would tell me that i should get used to it, or go for the USA. But i refused. I will never stop loving my country, and will always cheer them on. I didn't stop when we were at our worst in the 2006 WCQ.
Even with Arsenal, i've always been that way, i have suffered and celebrated so many victories, but i will never stop loving that team. Not like all those bandwagon Man U, Real, Barca fans.
