What: D.C. United Nothing But Nets Fun-draiser

When: Wednesday, April 1st, 7-10p

Where: Garrett's of Georgetown, 3003 M Street, NW

Ben Olsen and at least two other DC United players will be on hand this Wednesday to raise money and awareness for the Nothing But Nets Challenge (http://www.nothingbutnets.net/), a four team contest featuring Chicago, Seattle, Los Angeles, and DC United. The Nothing But Nets initiative was founded by the United Nations foundation in an effort to fight Malaria in Africa, where 3,000 children die each day from the deadly disease. For just $10, a family of four can sleep under a medicated bednet for up to four years.

Come and enjoy watching the US men's national team take on Trinidad and Tobago with a World Cup veteran and DC United star. While there, fans will be entered into a raffle featuring many many items donated by local sports organizations as well as organizations within MLS. Items include autographed balls and jerseys, as well as other great pieces of sports history. Garrett's of Georgetown is offering $3 domestic drafts and $2 Gin & Tonics as part of the event. The Gin & Tonic was invented by British soldiers in tropical locales to combat Malaria. Quinine, a chemical found in tonic water, was being given to the troops to fight the disease. The bitter taste was keeping some of them from taking their medication, so the soldiers began mixing the tonic water with their London Dry Gin, giving birth to the popular drink.

What better way to watch the World Cup qualifier than with a World Cup veteran, possibly winning great sports memorabilia, enjoying the cheapest cocktails inside the beltway, all while putting DC United ahead of Seattle, LA, and Chicago in this worthy challenge? Just $5 gains one access to this wonderful event. Limited to fans 21 and over.
