If you were Gerard Houllier and you had to choose your preferred line up to try to get us up into fourth spot and into the Champions League for next season, who would you go with??

For me, it would be...

GK: Kirkland - if not fit then Dudek
RB: Finnan
LB: Carragher
CB: Hyypia and Henchoz - proven combo!
DM: Hamman
CM: Gerrard
RM: Murphy - if he's not fit then Diouf
LM: Kewell
ST: Owen and Baros

I would go for a line up capable of scoring goals, and although Diouf has done well on the wing for us, taking on defenders and crossing into the box, he doesn't score enough goals in my opinion and I reckon we'd be better off with Murphy. (not to mention he could take penalty kicks) Riise misses out as well... has been disappointing this season. Heskey, Cheyrou and Biscan would make up the numbers on the bench.

Thoughts??

That would be mine, as well, except I would recall a certain Markus Babbel in place of Finnan.

This is scary.
You realize that this is just about the same team we've been crying about because they can't score goals. And you think they're going to carry us to the CL.
I hope you're right because it is the best we've got.

I know what you're saying usscouse, but when you look at it, despite our poor season so far, we're still only 3 points behind 4th spot with a home game in hand, so it's not all doom and gloom yet as far as I'm concerned. We still have the chance to salvage something from this season, but we need to start picking the right team!

Usually my answer to this would be "I blame the parents" I see that won't work here. You would really pick McDermott over Liddell...? And I thought you understood the game.
When "King Billy" (NO inference to" William of Orange") played for LIddellpool, if you weren't on the Kop at kick off...You missed the first goal...!!!!
Kick off's now are a string of lateral passes all the way back to the goalie so he can hoof it up the field. It looks very continental but what does it accomplish?
Billy was very direct, very strong and at least as fast as Owen. He would run at the defence and what would scare them was the fact that he was a 'real' two footer, they didn't know which side he would pass them on. Smart defences now just keep MO on his left foot and don't let him cut back right until he gets to the corner flag. Oh yeh, and no one could head the ball like on of Billy's rockets.

Fourty one goals in a season, even for allowing for the changes in the game, really isn't too shabby!

I like the rest of your choices, they would compliment Billy just fine.

You may get that exact team against Leeds. Maybe with Diouf a nose ahead of Murphy(Rememeber the $$ we put out) I like your team.
