A youth soccer coach was forced to resign after sending out a humorous email to parents. I think they need to put down their mocha-latte-half-caf-chinos and find a sense of humor. I guess the truth hurts just a bit too much.
Amen.

I figured LoewenBoy would need cheering up now that his man crush has moved on to LA. http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?p=9174413&highlight=berhalter#post9174413

Ah, the memories? Check out the the Bayern thread here (http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?p=17348001#post17348001)....could not resist.

This leaves us with Cherundolo...
The FC Dallas thread there is an unsubstantiated rumor that he is leaving for MLS. Dunno why he would....only 30 and still under contract through 2010. Certainly many 1.BL clubs and 2.BL clubs would want him.

Another "Ami" leaving the 2 Bund. Gregg's had a great run with some struggling Bundesliga teams including Energie Cottbus (where he attained the captain's armband) and Sechzig. 15 years in Europe is nothing to sneeze at and he'll make a decent two-three year addition to a MLS side.

Got a feeling that Ahlen's Grover Gibson will be next and doubt his MLS career will be long or meaningful based on his injury history.

This leaves us with Cherundolo and Zizzo at Hannover 96, Heath Pearce at Hansa Rostock, Robles at FCK, Taylor and Yeldell at TuS Koblenz, Arguez with Hertha (mostly reserves and development) and Kamani Hill technically on the books with Wolfsburg (and not likely to go anywhere but back stateside).

Germany is a hard sell to young Ami prospects. Learning the language, intense and focussed training and the work ethic are beyond most youth, college and professional training regimens this side of the pond.

There will be some talented players (2-4), with the proper attitude and abilities going over this summer and after the MLS season concludes. However, the understanding of earning the starting spot based on training ground work ethic, focus and learning the language will be key to their success. Also, the key to future player interest from Bundesliga sides.

Cheers . . . Woody

I don't see Grover coming back to MLS. He'll make more money in the regionalliga then he would in MLS.

Pearce - has to be going to Denmark, comfort zone, money, etc.

Cherundolo - I somehow expect he'll be at St Pauli, but just my inner thoughts.

Germany is still a prime destination for wannabe yanks abroad, easiest work permit to get and least path of resistance, but our Yanks need to perform better.

I gave YA up as well. Made a one thread allowance for the Joe Enochs stuff, figured they needed to see it.

Agreed. Always a day or two late. Though, Berhalter's info. went up pretty fast. Thanks for sharing the eyeP TV link Loewenboy. Really enjoyed seeing the Joe Enochs absheid piece/interview as well. Joe is a real class act as well. Now coaching the Osnabreuck Jugend sides and running a pretty successful little eatery and bierhaus as well.

I used to write the Bundesliga games and Ami player recaps for USNTPA website (2002-04). Always got them in on Sunday night or day after a midweek match. My editor usually was pretty quick on getting articles in and Lowenstein (the Lead Council for the Player's Association) made sure I got tickets to all US Nats games. However, their site is seldon read and has really fallen off in recent years.

As for Cherundolo; no way he comes to MLS unless it's with Seattle, Portland or one of the LA sides and that will be in 2+ years. St. Pauli would have to put a solid offer out for a transfer due to contract and fact that he is Hannover 96's most versatile and speedy fullback option. However, the recent string of injuries may be at issue.

With the previous exception, Steve is likely to stay in Hannover and may be a potential member of coaching staff like Joerg Sievers when his day comes. His girlfriend (soon to be wife) is there and ties are very strong. While I know football is a business, I don't see either matter happening in the near term.

Steve C - I could see him staying in Hannover forever, but if he leaves, I think its St Pauli. I don't see him going to an Osnabrück or an 1860.

That was a great interview, among many, with Berhalter. I loved how he was explaining how he would be allocated and the reporter asked: like the draft in the other professional leagues in the US? Berhalter paused and then finally said: "genau/exactly" as if he he wasn't too sure himself and/or like a draft but much more complicated and bassackwards.
Also, Gregg was looking really lean in that interview. He needs to get a couple of Haxen in him before he takes off.

The Hannover fans LOVE Steve Cherundolo. I can also see him spending his entire career there.

He was a class act all the way. He did look lean, but he always was. I watched the training videos from the last three weeks and he was the guy giving 100% full gas. Now, knowing that he was leaving, THAT is an amazing effort!!! Kudos.

Exactly. Honestly, I was surprised Gregg did not retire. But he likely talked to Arena, who always liked him, and came back to MLS for the $$ at LA knowing how bad they are defensively. My guess, no data to support it. Otherwise, I think had Tanner not left 1860, Gregg would have stayed put.

I will cut down the interviewer's crap and give you the basics....

Q: Gregg, afte 2.5 years at 1860 you are calling it quits and canceling your contract. Why so fast? Can you give us some insight?
A: That's football, it goes fast sometimes. The US league has just started and the transfer window there closes in one week (next week) and because of that I had to make a fast decision.

Q: Did you have previous contact with the MLS or was this a recent decision?
A: Occasionally I had contact with them, but this winter there was certainly contact, and now for a few weeks yet.

Q: Was the arrival of "Ruku" (Rukavina) also grounds for the move?
A: No, it was more making a decision about my future. I had to think about my family, my career, my kids, and the time was right now to make a change.

Q: How does it work? A transfer back to MLS?
A: I have signed a contract with the league, and then I must wait to see which team takes me. They have a process by which a team has first choice or may hold rights, etc., and they can trade those things with teams that might want to have me. So therefore I have to wait.

Q: So, a bit like a draft like in other professional leagues?
A: Exactly.

Q: Have you given anything thought to your life after football?
A: I have always thought I would stay close to football, perhaps as trainer, manager or something. I have to look around and see what opportunities there are.

Q: And contact with 1860 will continue?
A: Of course, it is very important for one to have contacts for scouting and other things, so we will stay in contact.

Q: You have said your "good byes" to the team? How was that?
A: It was emotional. I have played with these guys and they are re all good kids, good players, a good team, good trainer...so leaving is always a little sad.

Q: Who of the players would you rate as being the best?
A: That's tough to say....they are all good players.

Q: Did you have a discussion with Coach Wolf? How did it go?
A: He was a great help. He did not make it difficult for me to leave, he helped me and was there to make it happen. I thank him greatly and I think it is very classy of him to help out like he did. He thanked my for my hard work, leadership and giving 100%, that I was a good example for the boys and that made me happy. That made me happy?

Q: How is the family taking the move?
A: The kids are taking it a bit hard. They have friends here and have never lived in America, so they will find it a big change...but they will adapt.

Q: 15 years in Europe and now to the US. You have done a great deal.
A: It was great for me. I learned a great deal and I will keep it with me always.

Q: Would you like to give a parting message to the 1860 fans?
A: I'd like to say thanks. You must know that you have a great club. You need to keep the club in your heart and stand behind them. They will make the 1.BL...I know they will.

Q: Next year perhaps?
A: I don't know about next year.....I hope....I cross my fingers....I will watch them over the Internet and perhaps come again in the stadium to watch.
