So, is Premiere actually available to us here in the States?
yes. I think on Dish network
Dunno, never tried to use their net service since it is pay-per-view and pretty $$$. I support Loewen TV.
Really? I never knew you had this. I'm completely blown away.

Now I may not run with promo/relegation, but I will look to that in the future.
In reality, is there another alternative that still utilizes both the MLS and USL as they are right now?

No, Premiere isn't available to anyone in the USA. You're thinking of ProSiebenSat1 Welt.

Only the cup, and that is really pretty lame.
If I were to take over US Soccer I would propose that the Federation takes over all divisions below the 1st division.
I would look at the US soccer funds and see how many stadiums can I help get built.
By stadiums, I'm not talking about monstrosities, but 2,500 seats on up to 10,000 seats.
I would contact the potential sponsors and work to put it together to help build stadiums, and help stimulate our economy. I would look to start rival clubs, in South Carolina, Greenville, Charleston, Spartenberg, Columbia - all need teams and facilities.
Turn the 2nd division into a regional competition, same for all lower divisions.
TV deal - you want my national team games, then you have to give my 2nd and 3rd division tv games once a week too. This would be mostly for FSC, but maybe Goltv as well.
I'd re-vamp the marketing of the divisions so they get actual sponsor support, plus some money from the federation every season.
No more ODP, no more Bradenton - its all done by the clubs.
I could go on an on, but I don't want to have a knock on my door today.

I stand corrected. Footy knows German TV in the US better than me.
I just know its Dish Network that has something.

Unfortunately, Dish dropped Gol TV last year. They carried the 1. BL. I recently just upgraded back to the high end package forgetting that they dropped Gol. Money was tight for a while, but it's better now, so I was looking forwad to getting to watch some actual footy. I didn't even have ESPN. Of course, I have it back now and still get FSC and the local channel which carries the Cleveland matches. Granted I'll be at the matches singing and shouting, but I can watch the replays. :D

Slow news day since the international break.
Found this though. Some guy built it and was caught DUI on it. I hear Ford is thinking on making these low-budget transportation devices.

Washington Post is on a Berhalter move to the MLS presumably after the season ends.
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/soccerinsider/
".....according to MLS sources, USA defender Gregg Berhalter is close to being released by 1860 Munich, which would clear the way for the New Jersey native to sign with the U.S. league. A few teams expressed initial interest in him weeks ago, but it's unclear how many remain in the chase. Los Angeles is believed to be at the top of the allocation list."

Berhalter was a fine player for Sechzing during his stay.

I love the "released" part. His contract is up and, with the youth coach/director having left for Burghausen, Berhalter is not going to stick around for the new guy. I still believe Berhalter stays put in Germany, finishes his license and THEN makes a decision. He is already on record as having said his family feels at home in Muenchen and he is tired of relocating his family for his career. He said the next move would be his last for a while.

Agreed. You guys know I was horrendously hard on him his first season, but he has truly more than made up for it. I count him as one of the hardest working defenders and TRUE Loewen weiss/blu guys to wear the kit. Not saying he was great; just that he showed heart and leadership few ever have.
IF....and it is a BIG "if", he does come to MLS, not sure why LA would be at the top of the list. This is a guy who does not need to play anymore to feel fulfilled. My guess is he goes where he has a post-playing future.
Side Note: FC Dallas could certainly use him. Purdy is just not showing well. But hell, neither is anyone other than Kenny Cooper for that team. Watch the highlights of Sunday's game against Chivas for proof. If Tschauner came here he would be a freak'n Fussball Gott!!!! And we need a keeper.

So, does anyone know the origins of "Einmal Loewe, immer Loewe" or how long it's been around? I mean, I know what it means and have known for a long time but for some reason it just clicked today that the US Marines use the same thing... "once a Marine, always a Marine" and I was wondering which came first.
I did some quick research on the Marine end and the origins seem a bit like an urban legend. Came out of a barroom argument etc. Heh, most of our Marine Corps legends have "dubious origins". I couldn't even find a date to it, but the Marine mentioned by name who supposedly coined it also drew some famous Marine themed cartoons around 90 years ago when he was a Private. So, if it's the same guy then that dates the phrase sometime prior to 1960 because he supposedly had a 40 year career.
So, anybody got anything on the Loewen end?

I might know a little on the subject, but this is a better read (http://www.tsv1860.de/de/verein/klubinfo/index.php).

Marines pre-date 1860 but not sure about the saying.

I think it was Bicus Dicus who coined the prhase: "Once a Centurion, always a Centurion.":D

Oh, the Marine Corps was born on November 10th, 1775. I know that date well, it was ingrained in me in boot camp. The saying is what I was curious about.
Thanks for the link, though there's nothing in there though about the motto. Can I commission someone in country to call the team and ask? I'm sure there's some club historian somewhere that might know.

She's called... 'Incontinentia'.

Gregg Berhalter is returning to the USA. He agreed to dissolve his contract with Sechzig and is moving to MLS to apparently join the LA Galaxy.

Here is the 1860 website story (http://www.tsv1860.de/de/aktuell/news/2008/news_2009-04-01_int_berhalter.php). I will check the german boards and post more later. From the sounds of it, sounds like MLs wanted Berhalter in the states ASAP. While they did not say which club, I am told by Footy that it was LA. Figures, Arena is the coach and he loved him.

Here we go, off-topic but amusing and sad at the same time:
A youth soccer coach was forced to resign after sending out a humorous email to parents. I think they need to put down their mocha-latte-half-caf-chinos and find a sense of humor. I guess the truth hurts just a bit too much.
The following article has the entire text of the email and details about his resignation: http://www.patriotledger.com/sports/...-coach-resigns
Here's an excerpt, one of the funnier parts:
"I expect that the ladies be put on a diet of fish, undercooked red meat and lots of veggies. No junk food. Protein shakes are encouraged, and while blood doping and HGH use is frowned upon, there is no testing policy. And at the risk of stating the obvious, blue slushies are for winners."
I figured LoewenBoy would need cheering up now that his man crush has moved on to LA. Your relationship with him started out rocky, just like in Brokeback Mountain, but you eventually succombed to his masculine charms. :D

Another "Ami" leaving the 2 Bund. Gregg's had a great run with some struggling Bundesliga teams including Energie Cottbus (where he attained the captain's armband) and Sechzig. 15 years in Europe is nothing to sneeze at and he'll make a decent two-three year addition to a MLS side.
Got a feeling that Ahlen's Grover Gibson will be next and doubt his MLS career will be long or meaningful based on his injury history.
This leaves us with Cherundolo and Zizzo at Hannover 96, Heath Pearce at Hansa Rostock, Robles at FCK, Taylor and Yeldell at TuS Koblenz, Arguez with Hertha (mostly reserves and development) and Kamani Hill technically on the books with Wolfsburg (and not likely to go anywhere but back stateside).
Germany is a hard sell to young Ami prospects. Learning the language, intense and focussed training and the work ethic are beyond most youth, college and professional training regimens this side of the pond.
There will be some talented players (2-4), with the proper attitude and abilities going over this summer and after the MLS season concludes. However, the understanding of earning the starting spot based on training ground work ethic, focus and learning the language will be key to their success. Also, the key to future player interest from Bundesliga sides.
Cheers . . . Woody

I'd say that it's much easier for Americans to learn German than any other language. I don't get the misconception that it's so difficult. It's practically the same language, grammar rules, etc. More cognates than with any other European language, etc.
