I know it is early....but I can't help propose this for discussion.
Do you think we will sign an international star and if so who do you think will sign?
With Steve Nash's connection, the natural name that I can think of is Thierry Henry. I don't know how well Henry will do 2 years down the road, but just thinking about a star like him on the Whitecaps makes me smile. :p
**This is a purely speculative thread, for discussion, I am not trying to make up some rumors.**

try telling that to the Vancouver Grizzlies...
Nash and Henry are good buds though, and he has always hinted he'd like to one day play in MLS....

Lenarduzzi said Nash's status as a globally recognized athlete will help should the team ever decide to sign a high-profile soccer player.
"He has a relationship with (Barcelona striker) Thierry Henry," said Lenarduzzi. "I'm sure having an owner that is a well-known international basketball player making the connecting isn't going to hurt us."

Yeah, I don't think there will be any soccer versions of Steve Francis.

I hope the team makes a huge splash in two years time and signs somebody like Henry. But if they do a TFC, at most, we'll get a Julian De Guzman type of player. Don't get me wrong, De Guzman's a solid midfielder but no where near Henry, in skill or name. But comeon Steve bring Henry (or someone of that stature)!

MASSIVE difference between young American inner-city kid's opinion (ignorance?) of Vancouver and a fairly-worldly European veteran globetrotting footballer.
Attracting int'l talent to Vancouver will not be a problem (or, rather, if there is problems, it will having nothing to do with Vancouver as a city...)

I remember a Grizzly player telling a reporter that he liked Vancouver but that there were no grocery stores in Vancouver.
Yes, grocery stores are a foreign concept to Vancouverites.

There are many many players that the city, the ownership group, and former legend players that played here (Ball, Hector, Whymark, Wee Willie Johnson, Beardsley) could attract/recommend.
There are also many many guys overseas of quality that are entering the "twilight" of their European careers, but could probably have/make an impact here as a Whitecap in the MLS.
I know many people are lauding Asian Born/ Asain Heritage players as it could be a pulling point for the massive Pan Pacific Community living here in Vancouver, but here are some names...
Henry
Dennis Rommedahl
Adrian Mutu
Benni McCarthy
I think henry aside (given his much discussed relationship with Nash) you would want that player to be a midfielder or forward to have impact on your fan base...
Rommedahl, McCarthy and Mutu are guys with some star power.
You could always look at the Caps to take a run at some Canadian talents too like atiba Hutchinson, Julian deGuzman (as mentioned above), or Rob Friend...
Just my random thoughts.
