I was thinking about the name as i suggested in another thread... i think the perfect name would be to follow the new idea, basically what happened with Seattle. Keep the original name for the past history and add the FC for the next phase of the clubs future.
What do you think?
Edit: just relized its staying Portand Timbers.
But what name do you like better anyway..........
1)Portalnd Timbers
2)Portland Timbers FC.

Yeah, the current official Name is Portland Timbers Football Club. It's not on the crest, but I don't believe the added "FC" is on many English clubs crests either.

It already is PTFC. And for DCUDiplomat, the fans and city already use the FC, and embrace it.

Can I see a source on that? Not doubting, just curious. A little Google search of the official site doesn't turn up the phrase "Portland Timbers FC"

In one of the recent emails the club sent out they referred to themselves as the "Portland Timbers Football Club." Cleared out my email since. Try to find something later.
The Timbers Army and casual fans also use the FC in chants and merchandise so it is already "unofficially" accepted as well.

I agree that they should keep the traditional name. Lets just hope that Garber doesn't try to force some stupid name like "Union" on the team and fan base.

So, because he's from North Carolina he's automatically a redneck?
I guess because you're from Seattle you are automatically a dreary, coffee-drinking prick who always wears black?
I have a few problems with your post:
Firstly, it displays a great deal ignorance towards other cultures and other people (one of our biggest problems in this country (which is one of the reasons why many people won't give soccer a chance))
Secondly, it was just plain rude. The guy was just making a suggestion. Whether you thought it was a good suggestion or not is completely irrelevant to what you think of him as a human being.
Plus, as a soccer fan, why in the WORLD would you call out someone for liking soccer? Would you not want more rednecks to follow soccer, thus growing its fan base within North America? Soccer fans in America, as a whole, should stick together no matter where they are from. Period.
You know, I really like what Seattle has done as an organization and as a city so far and I am really excited about what they can bring to this league. But, it's people like you that make me want to despise them. But, with comments like that, I guess that's what you want.

Not my team, but personally I find it terribly stupid to add superfluous letters to the team name. If "Portland Timber Football Club" is the official name, that's cool, but what the point of adding "FC" to the common text of the name or the crest or regular speech? It's just silly.
I hate the way you see crap like "Sounders FC" or "Seattle Sounders FC" all over. Stupid. Just write "Sounders". And write "Timbers" or "Portland Timbers".
IMHO.

I agree. Things should just stay as they are. Official name "Portland Timbers Football Club", but the crest reads Portland Timbers.
I won't cry if they add it, because I don't think it's a big deal, but I hope it all just remains the same.

We already are a football club wether the badge says so or not. we will still be a football club with or without two extra letters on the badge in MLS. Besides Timbers already translates to Football Club in Portlandese.
