Has anyone any information as to what will happen to the residency program?
It was mentioned to be a sticking point in negotiations.
Do you think it will be disolved Or do you think all will remain quiet untill after CBA negotiations?
It is lauded as one of the best programs in North America it would be a shame to have to get rid of it to join MLS (and also dosen't say much about MLS youth development if that is the case).

The Caps said specifically on Wednesday that they will not be getting rid of their developmental system. Garber said that work needs to be done still on sorting out the situation but he said MLS could be looking at integrating a Caps style system into the other MLS clubs.

I think it'll get sorted. It is a pretty in-depth development system and also a revenue generator (IIRC) for the Whitecaps. We all know MLS is heading that way anyways, this just may accelerate things.
I'd imagine the development system actually helped Vancouver's bid process.

They are already partway there, with several MLS youth sides in the Development Academy (http://ussda.demosphere.com/Clubs/index_E.html).
It would be a huge benefit to both leagues, I think, for MLS teams to put U-23 teams in the PDL. Though, if they go like Vancouver, and actually have paid residency programs, it might make sense to make it part of an expanded USL-2.
Either way, this all sounds really hopeful, and might just be another crack in the door to producing cooperation between MLS and the USL.

There is no Canadian health care system since health care is a provincial responsibility. It may be crap in BC (where I assume you live) but around here it's actually quite good.
Back to soccer, I really hope that other teams pick up on Vancouver's model.

Actually under the Canada Health Act all Canadians have health care. The federal government funds the bulk of the costs. Its just that the provincial governments are left with the execution. The problem is that in BC is mismanagement and our population is 21% senior, compared to the Canadian average of 18%.

They are doing their best to lower the senior population in BC though. My mother spent all of 2008 trying to convince her doctors (and specialists) that there was something wrong with her and she couldn't keep food down. Even after she lost 75 lbs they kept telling her they couldn't find anything and it must be in her head. Just before Christmas when she had to be hospitalized they found, much to their surprise....cancer.
She died this January.

That's terrible news. I don't know why they would be so incompetent like that. Strange.

My condolences Krammerhead. 'Public' health care sure has its pitfalls.
Back on topic, I hope the Residency program can survive largely untouched. I am hopeful that Thomas Niendorf can repopulate the Cdn Men's national team with his grads.

So you want the Whitecaps to become Canada's version of Ajax Amsterdam?
