The funny thing with Domenech is that he wanted to pick Hoarau (unfortunately, he got injured) with the national team while he was in L2, now that he improved much and is playing with PSG, is one of the best striker in L1, has a profile that no-one else have in the national team, he doesn't pick him.

Ridiculous !! Hoarau has been overlooked for a guy like .. Briand ?!

I expect us to tie in Paris and lose in Lithuania . And goodbye to WC2010 .

Well, let's hope this goes well. Though I'm not expecting anything entertaining. Just want a win.

That list makes me guess Ray will continue playing Ribéry on the right, with Nasri on the left.

---------------Mandanda---------------
Sagna------Mexès------Gallas------Evra
---------L. Diarra------Toulalan---------
Ribéry-----------------------------Nasri
---------Benzema-------Henry----------

No way Benzema and Henry playing together.

I support Domenech but my tolerance would reach its limits. :o

Well, looking carefully at his selection I think Ray may try the 4-3-3 again, although it didn't work against Argentina.

---Lass------Toulalan---
---------Nasri----------
Ribery------------Henry
-------Benzema--------

Knowing Ray, he'll get Briand for Benzema and Gourcuff for Nasri at some point, reverting to the typical 4-2-2-2.

Why don't you think it's a good partnership? I like the 433 we played against Argentina too. I'd like to see it again, and we will win in France and Lituanie.

Bonne Chance, Les Bleus. C'est n'est pas facile contre Lituanie.

L'equipe de Lituanie:

Gardiens de but:
1. Žydrūnas Karčemarskas (Dinamo Moscow, Russia)
2. Paulius Grybauskas (Otelul Galati, Romania)
3. Giedrius Arlauskis (Unirea Urziceni, Romania)

Défenseurs:
4. Ignas Dedura (Spartak Moscow, Russia)
5. Marius Žaliūkas (Hearts Edinburgh, Scotland)
6. Arūnas Klimavičius (Ural Yekaterinburg, Russia)
7. Andrius Skerla (Jagiellonia Bialystok, Poland)
8. Irmantas Zelmikas (FBK Kaunas)
9. Vidas Alunderis (Tavrya Simferopol, Ukraine)
10. Marius Stankevičius (Sampdoria Genoa, Italy)
11. Andrius Jokšas (Tavrya Simferopol, Ukraine)

Millieux de terrain:
12. Deividas Šemberas (CSKA Moscow, Russia)
13. Mindaugas Panka (Widzew Lodz , Poland)
14. Linas Pilibaitis (ETO Gyori, Hungary)
15. Mindaugas Kalonas (Metalurg Zaporizhya, Ukraine)
16. Kęstutis Ivaškevičius (FBK Kaunas)
17. Mantas Savėnas (Nosta Novotroitsk, Russia)
18. Darvydas Šernas (Widzew Lodz, Poland)
19. Deividas Česnauskis (Hearts Edinburgh, Scotland)
20. Edgaras Česnauskis (Moskva FC, Russia)
21. Saulius Mikoliūnas (Hearts Edinburgh, Scotland)

Attaquants:
22. Tomas Danilevičius (Livorno Calcio, Italy)
23. Andrius Velička (Rangers Glasgow , Scotland)

good article on Gignac

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2009/mar/24/ben-lyttleton-ligue-gignac-toulouse

last year he drove a Bentley, this year he drives a Smartcar. hmm, maybe some of the other players on the team could learn from his example.

Lithuania often plays a 4-2-3-1, and from their selection of players I think that may be the case again.

--------------------------Karčemarskas/Grybauskas --------------------------
Stankevičius/Jokšas---Dedura/Žaliūkas---Skerla/Zelmikas---Alunderis/Klimavičius
----------------Šemberas/Panka---------------Kalonas/Šernas----------------
Mikoliūnas/Ivaškevičius----------------------------D. Česnauskis/E. Česnauskis
-----------------------------Pilibaitis/Savėnas--------------------------------
----------------------------Danilevičius/Poškus------------------------------

Some things to notice:

- The position likely to be taken by Pilibaitis or Savenas (a mix of CAM and SS) was taken by Jankauskas, and sometimes by Radzinevičius, before. Neither have been called (injuries?) and Pilibaitis did a rather poor job when they lost 3-0 to Serbia in Belgrade last October.

- Alunderis as left fullback is the least experienced in that defence. All in all, Lithuania has a solid one that has only conceded three goals in quals so far (to Serbia). It was mostly the fault of Klimavičius and Zelmikas, but now they got the titulars.

- They're bringing in Kalonas instead of Kšanavičius as CM. Kalonas is more dangerous IMO, a faster, more attacking player.

I think our hopes lie on their left side (our right). Kalonas could move forward leaving more space for Sagna, and I think Ribéry is clearly superior to Alunderis. Entering through the middle will be very difficult: the Dedura-Skerla pair is experienced.

I say 0-0 in Lithuania and 1-0 or maybe 2-0 in France. Lass is going to be vital to shut them down: his mark of Pilibaitis or Savėnas may decide whether we concede a goal at all.

You see, this is what I don't understand. I'm not trying to deny the ability of the Dedura-Skerla partnership..but really how can they really trouble some of the most celebrated attacking players in Europe? I mean everyone loves Henry this season at Barca. Ribery is being linked to Man Utd, and Barcelone. Benzema is one of the hottest young prospects in europe. Not to mention the depth we have with the poachers like Hoarau and Gignac. At least 4 pts must be had in these matches.

because domenech will find a way to neutralize the talent at his disposal. thats HIS gift. it SHOULD be impossible, but somehow he always manages.

unless of course you have a penchant for plastic horns.

No way Benzema and Henry playing together.it's true they both have been playing from the left this year but they're still our best pair right now.

Karcemarskas will start in net. No way in hell Grybauskas gets the nod.

I would also be shocked if Pilibaitis and Danilevicius were both not starting. Jankauskas hasn't been called up recently, and to be honest, I don't see him being called up anymore. He did great things for us, but the man is 34 now and playing for Skonto Riga. His career is at its twilight.

This is by far the greatest team ever assembled for Lithuania. The matches against France will go very far in deciding how good we are.

Oh, and it is good to see Poskus back after years of being M.I.A.

Sorry, I wasn't clear with my notation. In general, the player before the "/" sign is the one I think will play, the player after is his most likely sub.

For France that'd be:

--------------------Mandanda/Lloris--------------------
Sagna/Fanni---Mexès/Rami---Gallas/Squillaci---Evra/Clichy
--------Toulalan/Diaby---------L. Diarra/A. Diarra--------
---------------------Nasri/Gourcuff---------------------
Ribéry/Gignac-------Benzema/Briand-------Henry/Hoarau

Which would be nearly the same team that played against Argentina, except with Benzema starting instead of Anelka, Nasri taking Gourcuff's place and Abidal starting instead of Evra.

Oh, and it is good to see Poskus back after years of being M.I.A.

I have both Pilibaitis and Danilevičius starting up front in my projected formation for Lithuania. And I agree, this is a very strong Lithuanian team, with a very solid defense and two fast wingers, Mikoliūnas and Česnauskis.

It's a team that doesn't leave much in the way of open spaces, and plays good counters. It may be a game similar to those against Scotland (defending with nine men and leaving one up front), which scares me a bit, to be honest.
