Is there a way to set up a twitter that allows any one at any game to post play-by-play and scores?

Well, with twitter they can post a lot in a short ammount of time... I think it could be done... It would just be up to the team to have someone to post a play by play. Tedious.... but do-able.

Apparently, you can follow the Boston-Chicago scrimmage via the boston twitter (http://twitter.com/bostonbreakers?team=boston) posts. Peter Wilt put the Red Stars lineup on his twitter post, too.

So long as it doesn't lead to "tweet timeouts", I say way to use the technology.

Actually, my question was more aimed at the fans. . . is there a way for fans to tweet in play-by-play, results? That would be faster and draw on more perspectives than team supplied info.

That's a good question. I would do it, if allowed, except I would be afraid that at the first bad call against my team, I would throw my laptop at the ref.

If you have laptop/internet access, what's wrong with bigsoccer pbp threads? I guess I'm just old school...

You might be at one game and want to learn about others on blackberrys or other devices.

Not sure I'm into the players tweeting during games thing, though I'm willing to see how it goes.
My main problem with it is that electronic messaging/talking on cell phones, etc. has been proven to be extremely distracting. If this is really going to be a serious league, the players need to be focused, even the ones on the bench. As a player on the field, I want my bench supporting me during games, not selling tickets. Besides, apart from snippets of conversation among the team, what can players give us during a game that a bystander couldn't and is that little bit worth it?(serious question)
I'm open to the idea, but I'll need convincing.

I totally agree. I don't want coaches or players tweeting or blogging during a game. I want them focused on the game. I want fans to be able to keep each apprised of what is happening.
Having players tweet during games is like having them wear skirts to the matches.

Well, looks like the Twittering (http://www.womensprosoccer.com/newsitem_ektid10318.aspx) will go on.

AmericanSoccerNews has a Twitter feed dedicated to WPS (http://twitter.com/wpsASN). They live tweeted the opening game. Not sure they'll be doing others.

I followed the LA twitters, GM Naimo and player Wagner. I thought the GM was OK and Wagner was not good. Don't tell me it's cold. Tell me what you think of the play on the field.

Yeah, I wasn't overly impressed by the, uh, substance coming from the player twitter feeds, but then again, could the players really comment on the game play without possibly catching flack for it later?
Or were you talking about really generic observations?

I think the generic observations were a result of what you eluded to: It is pretty tough for a player to comment on the game and be honest without having to pay for it later -- either from teammates or on the field.
Aly did nothing but confirm my concerns about having players tweet. Here's an idea: What if WPS had a guest tweeter every game?
How about Marta's No. 1 fan: Kobe Bryant.
A Galaxy player. A college coach. A 14-year-old club player. Mia. Super fan. Whatever. We'd probably get much more honest and interesting play by play.
