From the Washington Post Soccer Insider - March 16, 2009:
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/soccerinsider/2009/03/monday_kickaround_9.html
*USA national team coach Bob Bradley is in Nashville today for a site inspection and media event. So far more than 12,000 tickets have been sold to fans from 43 states for the April 1 (mid-week) World Cup qualifier against T&T.
so, they're a bit more than half-way to the total attendance for the first WCQ of 2009:
Match: United States Men's National Team vs. Mexico
Date: Feb. 11, 2009
Competition: FIFA World Cup Qualifying; Final Round
Venue: Columbus Crew Stadium; Columbus, Ohio
Kickoff: 7 p.m. ET
Attendance: 23,776
please place any updates to this total or any media predictions at expected attendance as the match versus Trinidad & Tobago approaches.

Already better than the WCQ in Chicago vs. TNT last September. Hopefully a large walk up crowd from the Nashville area.

Bear in mind I have not seen ANY marketing for this game at all in the Nashville area. These numbers are impressive without any marketing for the Nashville Market.
Something tells me there will be local marketing for the game soon.

yea, i haven't seen any promotions for this game and i'm here in nashville living, good number though...i'm just glad that they only have the lower sections open for the game and not the upper sections, even though it would be incredible if there were as many fans to fill up LP field..i think it can hold like 70,000 if i'm not mistaken?

is there any way we can run an online promotion or something that is easy to maintain and run/cheap? i don't live in nashville (i live in atlanta), but would love to do something to encourage people to go, especially locals, because they are right there.
i would be willing to help run some sort of online promotion, if anyone is interested... not sure how to do it though

Okaiee...
First things first I am pretty glad that we have 12K tickets sold so far. T&T isn't exactly the most glamorous ficture on the market and Nashville doesn't have an MLS team, so when you consider those factors those numbers are impressive.
Bear in mind, of course, the first Soccer game in LP field, an exhibition between the LA Galaxy and UAG Tecos back in 2004, netted 14,000 fans. Furthermore, that game actually had marketing, including some awesome billboards on Nolensville Road.
I really hope there is promotion for the game locally. I'm sure if this game was promoted as heavily as the Galaxy/Tecos game, I estimate we would have over 30K at gametime, which is nearly half of the 68,000 LP field holds. Remember, our kickoff game against Morocco had over 26,000. I say that we get those numbers again if there is no promotion. (Morocco/USA was promoted, but not as heavily as Galaxy/Tecos)
As far as promotion, I really don't know anybody in the local media and my only friend who wrote for the Tennessean has since retired. What we can do is since we know where we are meeting before the game we should invite the Nashville Scene to do a write-up on us. We can't speak to the USSF, but Sam's Army and the American Outlaws should leak "Press Releases" to the Scene, the Tennessean, the City Paper, News Channel 5, local Radio, whoever. Somebody will be bound to start covering the game before kickoff, and who knows, maybe local news will film the March-In from McFadden's. That would rock the house, especially since it would be very difficult for local gasbag sports commentators to bash Soccer after seeing that footage.

Hope it's a nice crowd. Can't wait to get there!

I didn't perceive any risk of a sellout, so I'm just going to walk up and get tickets on game day. Got everything else booked.

The local Gannett fishwrapper has an article about the game: U.S. soccer event builds a fan base (http://tennessean.com/article/20090318/SPORTS11/903180423).
Having been a Metrostars supporter around the time GM Alexi Lalas put out his stupid suit edict, I found this funny:
Bob Bradley sat in a West End restaurant Monday afternoon wearing soccer warm-ups. They were very nice soccer warm-ups, mind you, but most everyone else wore suits and professional attire.
Anyhow, the article puts the 12k ticket figure out again. Maybe a bit of local media attention will boost ticket sales.

Nice post Haig.
Funny thing is I happened to work in the Restaurant where BB went in. I was working, so I couldn't mug for an autograph (Which isn't classy), but I did say "Good Luck Mr. Bradley" on his walk out, which he immediately smiled and gave me a thumbs up, and after some brief pleasantries I asked him "6 points in the next two games?", which he said "Oh yeah. Definitely.". Now I know those guys next to him were Tennessean writers, and they were pretty amused that the guy behind the counter knew who he was and what as at stake. Believe me, that made my day.
But yeah, finally some local media attention. Sales will start to climb.

I sure hope the weather in Nashville stays like it has been this last week and a half. Then LP field may have to open the upper deck!

I'll be making the 2 hour drive from Memphis with my wife. This is the third qualifier in the past year I have been able to attend (Mex & Cuba the others) but will be the first one attended by my wife.
I'll probably go back to RFK in October and maybe Gillette Stadium in July for the Gold Cup and if my wife has a good time this time around maybe she'll go too.
