Why doesn't DC have open tryouts like some of the other MLS clubs?

I really doubt they would be able to find that many players in an open tryout, we already have enough trialists. Also, how can your favorite teams be DC and LA at the same time?

DC and LA? What about Jalapa and Mictlan? :D

Welcome to the boards, Avi. tmas hits the nail on the head: there are good players in the area, but an open tryout, while useful for a U14 team, wouldn't yield much. Keeping an eye on the local colleges and adult leagues will occasionally yield a Chino Allegria...

Didn't they have open tryouts at DC a few years back? I don't see what is to be lost by having them - if nothing decent shows up, fine, but there is always undiscovered talent around because players haven't been seen by the right people, or don't have the right connections, or they didn't come from the right background to get into college, or land a scholarship, or have the parents with the transportation means/financial resources to put them into a costly youth team. In fact they should hold them regularly, two or three times a year. It wouldn't hurt because there's always the possibility that an overlooked talent has slipped through the net.

I mean, if Carey Talley can become a professional soccer player, there's got to be hope for almost anyone out there.

i think under normal circumstances that would be a good idea to have them as ian suggests. however with a late signing of the coaching staff and an ubelieveably busy pre-season travel schedule, it is probably very hard to have an event that, as stevan points out, ain't likely to yield much. if we got a real youth/reserve program, then i'd say it is a must.
