You've seen the huge banner at RFK or on TV. You've watched us tailgate in Lot 8. You've heard about our legendary road trips. Well, there's no need to continue standing on the sidelines. We know you're ready to play and we're waving you in!

WHO WE ARE:

Screaming Eagles, Inc. is an all-volunteer army of soccer fans committed to supporting D.C. United in the stands of RFK, on the road and in the community (all while having as much fun as possible!) Membership in the club is open to EVERYONE who wants to promote soccer and support D.C. United.

Our activities include: tailgates at home games, roadtrips, Screaming Eagles Football teams in area leagues, participation in community events such as Race For the Cure and, special events like our annual Capitol Soccer Ball and our own SE member Meet the Team Day.

We also have our own section at RFK (133-134 and part of 132) for folks who want a standing and cheering experience on game day (although many of our members sit all over RFK). The Screaming Eagles control the ticket sales for these sections so we're able to offer considerable discounts on season plans and day of game tickets.

WHAT'S NEW IN 2004

D.C. United is not the only group that has experienced exciting changes in the off-season. The Screaming Eagles have formally incorporated in the District of Columbia and we are in the process of finalizing our tax-exempt status with the IRS. The other big change is that founder and president Matt Mathai has retired from the leadership of the Screaming Eagles. Matt founded the club on the Internet in 1995, and it has grown to be one of the largest and most recognized supporters' clubs in Major League Soccer.

Other changes for the 2004-2005 year include new membership levels. The rate for individuals 21 years of age or older will now be $20. The rate for individuals 20 years of age and under will now be $5. All Screaming Eagles members will get the same benefits of membership at these two rates, (with the understanding that those who are not of legal drinking age cannot drink alcohol at any SE events).

**MARK YOUR CALENDAR!**

Screaming Eagles Annual Meeting
Sunday, March 14
4:00 PM-6:30 PM
Doubletree Crystal City Hotel
Commonwealth Room
300 Army Navy Dr.
Arlington, VA

Coach Peter Nowak and Sr. Vice President/General Manager Stephen Zack will be our guest speakers

Current Screaming Eagle members (2004-2005) are welcome and encouraged to attend (you can join/renew prior to or at this meeting). We will be discussing all of the new changes, introducing the new club leadership, and providing SE event information for the upcoming season.

HOW DO I JOIN?

Send an email to membership@screaming-eagles.com and include your name and address and we can either mail or email you a membership application. We will also have forms at the Annual Meeting and we always have an information table at the SE tailgate in lot 8 at RFK.

We hope to see you at many of our events this year, especially the annual meeting. If you have any questions, please contact me at kim@screaming-eagles.com

Excellent organization, and always fun! I'm proud to be a member. Congrats to K, who always does a great job organizing things. I'm ready for another year of merriment and cheer! I'm excited about DC United, the Screaming Eagles, and the upcoming season.

Congrats to President K. At some point I need to renew and I will. By all means anyone who isn't a member, join and definitely take a road trip. It's a blast.

Can I use Paypal for dues?

Right around the time the meeting starts on the 14th, Jan and I will be partying in downtown Milano. That's after we go to San Siro to see Inter play host to Chievo Verona. Hmm, maybe we should cut our trip short so we don't miss the meeting....

Nah, don't think so.

;)

Actually, K, if you're going to be at the Happy Hour on Friday, can I pay you dues then?

!!! K for President in 2004 !!!

Looks like the SE's have been working during the offseason as well...

Congrats to the new leadership, and of course many thanks to our President 'Emeritus', Matt Mathai, for all his work to make the Screaming Eagles what it is today.

I'm definitely renewing. The $20 is well worth it...heck you can recover the cost at a single tailgate if you show up early enough! ;)

Kudos and many, many thanks to Matt Mathai. Enjoy your retirement! The SEs will miss you and your calm, all-inclusive demeanor, although I doubt that retirement means you'll no longer be at the games.

K is a great choice for a successor to Matt, as is Mr. Roadtrip, Paul Sotoudeh aka gocaps as Vice President.

Take Bill's advice if you've never been on a SE roadtrip!

I can ALWAYS accept money for membership (if you have your renewal forms, great but I'll have some with me on Friday at the happy hr). Right now we're accepting checks and cash (we're still switching over some operations so credit card option coming soon).

Thanks
K

Many thanks to Matt for his service to the fans of DC United. He was quick to make me feel welcome when I wandered over to my first SE tailgate in '98, so a personal thanks to him, too.

re: beer - I'd wait to hear something official, but I would suspect the change will be from "totally free" to "practically free". I tried to get us strippers and the beer prices that go with it to pay them, but I was squashed down :) Damn conservative board! Hahaha.
Someone should go find Rev's testimonial post from the SE ticket thread for this one, it was a good example of how great the club is :-)
We'll miss you Matt, but I would guess losing some of the responsibility might mean we'll actually see even more of you around the tailgates. That would be nice. Just don't forget to renew! Too bad to all you guys who kissed Matt's ass for so long, but K will be happy to talk to you now, I'm sure :)

The beer issue is still in the works, but we're hoping to keep it free again this season. There are wheels within wheels, and the Bush economy hasn't done the SEs any more favours than it has the rest of the nation, but we should be able to say one way or another shortly.

I would like to add to my previous post by stating that whatever the future of the free beer policy, the $20 membership fee is still worth it. I would very much like to get free beer at the tailgates though. :D

Dave, you're going to need a string of pearls and some white satin gloves for the matches this year.
