Given that the PG County stadium is in the crapper, DCU is acquiring castoff 'keepers from the Galaxatives and four -- count 'em four -- players already are injured in pre-season, I thought this thread was appropriate.

I hope the beerman has an extra supply for home games this season, we'll need it.

Tommy Soehn: [at a team meeting] Can I have your attention, please?
[picks up a ball]
Tommy: I have something I think you all ought to know about. It seems that Mr. MacFarlane doesn't think too highly of our worth. He put this team together because he thought we'd be bad enough to finish dead last, knocking attendance down to the point where he could move the team to Miami... and get rid of all of us for better personnel.
Emilio: Even me?
Tommy: Even you, Luci.
Brian Namoff: What if we DON'T finish last?
Tommy: He'll REPLACE you with somebody who WILL. After this season, you'll be sent back to the USL or given your outright release.
Ben Olsen: [Ben stands up] Well then I guess there's only one thing left to do.
Emilio: What's that?
Ben: Win the whole ********ing thing.
[long pause]
Jaime Moreno: [Jaime stands up] Yeah.
Fred: [Fred pounds his hand] YES!
[everyone talks amongst themselves]

They say it can't be done, but we're going to win it all this year.

Like in The Game of their Lives?? Or like when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor??

Used to be that they couldn't beat us on the field. Now they want to beat us with the field (or lack thereof).

As for the team, except for losing Gallardo (who was jus' passin' through anyway, and rarely played) and Guerrero, we've basically got a team that's as good as -- about the same as -- last year's. Don't see how they've scrimped or improved much there. It's not like last year's spending actually paid off so much, eh?

Importantly, I think we're already ahead of last year's pace -- for both cards and injuries.

Negative mojo go away!!

as long as the 11 men on the pitch run and fight as hard as they can i'll be satisfied. winning comes and goes in sports--pride and effort don't.

win, lose or draw that's our side.

I hear what you're saying bro but sometimes things spiral out of our control.

It's a curse to love too much. (Chupa Rivero, el capo of The Strongest told me that when I was a kid, and he wasn't talking about his wife)

we'll follow this club for scores of years and some seasons won't have the hardware and success we strive for but that's part of the ticket we've punched. you, me and the many other who've been around the club since the beginning as well as those new will see the peaks and valleys.

i'd rather be cursed to love united too much than to like metro even a little...:p

That's never been a question over 12+ years. The future is uncertain and I'm trying to keep our ranks chins up in the air. So much uncertainty, so much off field questions, this is the first year I can remember no one giving a shit about the team on the field but what's going to happen with the stadium.

On this we agree. I need Nottingham to pick it up and get promoted, Boro to score some goals, Barca to win Champions League, River to come back and above all The Strongest to beat Bolivar, then we can get around to the business of United putting this bullshit to bed once and for all. It's draining on a day to day basis. MacFarlane, Chang and Payne need to put this baby to bed. I know it's easier said than done, but at some point the fans need to know....know what I mean?

I'll be there every home game as well (God willing) and I'll cheer like hell and drink beer and wish the season would never end. I just thought the pre-season developments this year deserved an ironic counterpoint to the "greatest DCU team ever" hype from last year's pre-season. Despite all the bad news, I'm cautiously optimistic about this year -- although the Wicks acquisition baffles me completely.

Isn't the next scene where Tommy stands before the team with a life-size picture of MacFarlane and says for every win they take a little bit of clothing off until by the end of the season he's down to nuttin?

As am I. I have a sneaking suspicion that we've got a couple jems among our 1st and 2nd year players and they'll certainly each be given the opportunities this year to prove themselves.
