Something that has been bothering me is which side to support. Now I was born here los angeles 1977 before the civil war. While my dad was here with us my Grandther " Julio Espinola " was assasinated by the the leftist guerrillas in 1980. My grandfather was involved slightly in supporting the govement at that time, but was not a politician. They gave him warnings to leave his town of " vis dolores : in Cabanas, but never wanted to leave.
My problem is that is hard for me to support "El frente" when they killed my grandfather which I never met. :(
I understand the country is not benefiting from this 'trade agreement " with the usa, so a change might be neccesary. Also I understand that USA has been keeping pupet goverments all over the usa for many years. Its weird, deep inside I want the FMLN to win, but I cant support them because they killed my grandady. I cant talk about it with my dad either because its a touchy subject. I hope I dont piss people off for posting this here ( sorry Kevin ), but I needed to get this off my chest. SHould I support the FMLN or should I support whats best for the country ??

Its hard to choose sides, knowing that both Parties did horrible things in the past...Many Salvadorans here in the US will benefit, if Arena stays in power, the US will continue its support effort to many Salvadorans out here, especially those trying to work out there legal papers... FMLN is view by the US as close as to a communist party & I wouldnt know what kind of relationship both countries would have if FMLN takes over.......

They Left allegedly killed my grandfather too. He was a plantation owner and was being extorted for money. i never met him and this left my mother and her family devastated because he didn't sustain them and they were very poor. All of us here probably have stories of what either side did to our families, so that should be pushed aside.
All that aside, i have no ill lwill towards the FMLN. Compared to the atrocities and genocide ARENA committed, its only a fraction of what the right did during the war. Yet ARENA paints themselves as the saviors.
I follow Salvadoran politics closely, and even though i personally hate the extremism the country has, there seems to be no middle ground between the etreme Right and extreme Left, with this election I'd have to choose the lesser of two evils. Funes imo, has said all the right things. We can not afford to go back to the colon, we should maintain diplomatic ties to the U.S., and not become their bitch, and there should be a strong emphasis on crime.
Would it hurt the country to taste another flavor? I dont think so. Salvadoran politics is leaps and bounds ahead of what Venezuela and Bolivia are, and they didnt go what we went through.

Yeah its really tricky, but from what I see socialism has helped the poor with education & health care. I think it is more of a long term plan by giving education to the poor. In the short term it might affect us greatly though. Besides why do people wanna keep coming here, a lot of people dont even have jobs here now. I saw in the news that in California they got "shanty towns" springing up. You know places in where a lot of homeless people sleep in tents.

But in time those blacks and whites and dont forget chicanos, will have to start working those kind of jobs as well. Mowing lawns, low paying construction, janitor work etc, etc.

Violence Soars in El Salvador
San Salvador - The year 2009 began with 689 murders between January and February in El Salvador according to statistics published in this capital on Monday.
If this trend continues, the country will finish this year with over 4,500 homicides, the largest figure since President Elias Antonio Saca took power in 2004, and possibly in the last decade.
National Civil Police General Director Jose Luis Tobar, quoted by El Faro weekly, attributed most homicides to the gangs called maras and escape of Saul Turcios Angel, a.k.a. El Trece, together with a group of gang members.
However, Human Rights Public defender Oscar Luna disagreed with that assertion, saying more than one person is responsible.
"I think the issue is not being confronted seriously. The policies have failed and there has not been a true diagnosis," said Luna.
The ombudsman denounced that the government, instead of adopting measures to prevent and solve the social problems, implemented the anti-maras law, which protected massive captures of youths, many of whom were children.
"The measures have not been the most appropriate and they continue improvising," he stated.
The human rights ombudsman said crime rates will increase if we do not adopt appropriate policies to prevent and investigate crime and as long as we lack an efficient justice system to punish those responsible.
unfortunately part of the solution is legalizing drugs, it will slowdown the enrichment of the black markets who use maras to distribute their drugs and arms.

Lets look at this simply... FMLM=Scum
But seriously, why would would you want to follow down the left-wing road of most latin american countries. You said it yourself. Support who you know is going to be best for your country. That group will not be FMLN. Why would you want a crazed leftist communist party to take control of your country?

Why do Latinos use this argument? Before Latinos came in mass numbers, blacks and low income whites all did these jobs. The large influx of illegal Hispanics only made it easier for them to work for low wages. It is not about a white or black person being lazy, it is about paying Jose or Juan 4 or 5 dollars less than Joe or Jack, with little or no benefits. I dont like hearing this argument like we're on a high pedestal for work.
And dont get it twisted, a lot of Mexicans are now complaining about Central Americans doing the same thing on the border. Working for lower wages than they would possibly work for.

Funes is different. He has no ties to the war, he's only a former journalist, a lot more qualified imo than a former television entrepenuer. He has no real connections to Chavez and has tried his best to distance himself from Chavez and Cuba. El Salvador will not be Cuba, as I stated earlier, the extreme Right will be damned if it ever becomes that.
How has the country benefited from ARENA the past 20 years? Looking back we sold our souls by dollarizing the economy, and ARENA decision with no vote. Compared to the Mexican Peso, the Colon was actually doing a little bit better, yet they went ahead and did it anyway. Funes up to this point has been saying all the right things, it is a bit of a gamble considering the party may not be aligned so much with his centrist ploicies and ideals, but at the worse, if the FMLN wins, this should teahc a lesson to ARENA how much they're screwing up.

I work in Manhattan Beach, California. One of the wealthiest communities in this L.A. area. Landon Donovan lives out here, Tight End Tony Gonzales has a house as well here and so many others.... Anyways if you go to any restaurant around the block, all you see is hispanics working there either chefs or waiters whether its a fast food place or an up class spot... Its rare to see a black or white person working behind the counter at a Jack n' Box out here....
Reality is that the Blacks & Whites are advancing at a rapid pace ahead of most Hispanics in America, proof of that is that we now have a black president.. While blacks are leaving the Ghetto's Hispanics are moving in by the masses. For example take a look at Inglewood & Compton where there use to be a big community of African Americans now is mostly run by latinos and the sad part is that instead of turning these communities into something desirable to live in, they bring in their typical mentalities, kids instead of going to school and finishing their education they will rather stay on the block and gangbang, shi* out kids at an early age...
While others move on to bigger & better things and further themselves to prevent from being exploited there will always be jobs for latinos at Taco Bell, just because thats how far they are willing to go...the more there are jobs like these available the more latinos there will be heading up north...

Agreed, but what you just said has nothing to do with Latinos working the jobs blacks and whites don't want. That happens everywhere. If you go to River Oaks here in Houston, arguably the wealthiest area in the South, all you see are us Spics cleaning, mowing, nanny-ing, and cooking in that area. It happens everywhere. There will always be a blue collar working class regardless of race. Always. All Im saying is that, just because we work for low ages and generally dont ask for handouts, does not mean we hsould put ourselves so high. Most of those people do it out of nessecity, get paid crackers, and the employers are happy to pay them that so long as they dont ask for benifts and higher wages.

I know what your saying but no one here is putting Latinos on a pedestal, there is a demand for people to do those "certain" jobs and as long as Latinos are willing to do those jobs, well there will always be a job for them in this country...Thats their problem if they want to work for peanuts.

This is the problem with el salvador ploitics our options are arena (the right) although have fixed some part of el salvador economy they failed to curve large increases of violences of gangs and the uneven portion of wealth in el salvador and then you have the other option the FMLN (Exterme Left) whose policies are too extreme ecomincal wise (with rumours of the removal of the pensions and shutting factories to develop self sufficient factories)
and their many lingering feelings cause of the atrocities caused by both sides :(
Unfortunately their are no decent options outside of those two.....I wish to develop a labour party in El Salvador with similar values and goals to the one in australia

but socialism has been doing good thing in south america.
watch this video, and judge for yourself.
YouTube - War On Democracy - Hugo Chavez - Part 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8LWoU7ii9E)
I dont even need to watch this.. its just going to be blatant propaganda that is used to lure in weak minds.
ON SOCIALISM:
Look, theres no arguing with me, because socialism/marxism/far leftism simply go against my American and Conservative values. According to my American/Conservative values, you work for what you want. You fight for what you want, and you kill yourself till you get it. You don't take any handouts or just expect things be given to you. My American constitution gives me the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happieness. I don't have a right to free nationalized health care, nor do I want it. I don't have a right to a house, nor do I want one given to me. I want to earn that house. That is why I disagree with people like Hugo. His reforms, while to the untrained eye may seem good, are only teaching the people of Venezuela to rely on the government. He is teaching them laziness.
SO when it comes to socialism, there really is no argument. Its just one side, which promotes reliance on big government, laziness, little to no competition in the economy, equal outcomes, etc. The other side promotes hard work, pride in that work, and eventually well earned suceess. People say our system doesnt always work. I say it does work; for the people who try. Im sorry, but those are my values.
My mother came from Honduras to this country when she was 17 with nothing. She was dirt poor over there. Now she lives comfortably in a nice area in New York, after working hard for years. She NEVER took a handout, not once. So it can be done. Don't tell me it cant. All it takes is getting up off your ass, and learning to STOP relying on the government to give you stuff. Its that simple. And it feels better when you earn what you want, rather than just getting it. Take my word for it, all you nay-sayers! Trust me!
