Because my wife is a sweetheart I’m able to watch the EPL from my own home this year…Direct TV and Fox Sports World…. X-mas present…, I’m in heaven now….

Since Christmas I’ve watched as many games as my schedule allows, and after watching several Leeds games I have this question and I hope some of you can answer it!!

Can anyone tell me why Alan Smith is so angry?

I remember watching Smith play a few years back, he was in his late teens and he played with such grace and love for the game. At present times, I’ve watched several Leeds games this year and I see Smith still has the same love and passion but he looks angry, like he has a chip on his shoulder. He commits stupid fouls and gets himself kicked out of games for no reason.
This is not the same player I watched play a few years ago, what happen to him?

Well, I would guess that he is stressed about Leeds' current situation. They're staring relegation in the face, and in the span of a couple seasons, have gone from champions league semi-finalists to bottom of the premiership. They've gone from players like Ferdinand, Kewell, and Hasselbaink, to .... well, you've seen them play. Remember too that this is his hometown team.

Honestly though, I think he's just a hothead, and always has been.

I'm not sure Alan Smith has been sent off this season, or if so only once. He's always been fiery, but then so was Cantona, so is Roy Keane etc... Nothing wrong with passion as long as it can be kept under control and he's getting better at that as he matures.

Appreciate the feed back,
I agree there is nothing wrong with playing with passion, and maybe it was just the few games I watched. But it just seemed to me that when Smith went in for a tackle he went in with his head down and it really didn’t matter if he got the ball or the player. That to me shows very control of his emotions.

Did you know Smith has received 9 yellow cards this year, via the foxsprostworld website..

That's not that many considering the role he's had at Leeds, to be the winner on the team. Sometimes playing defensive midfield and playing every game.

Even the likes of Darren Anderton have broken the 5 booking barrier.

I think Alan is a very tenacious player and he needs to play with that "edge" to perform well. I believe the problems at Leeds is affecting his attitude and I think that's to much responsibility to ask of a player who have not have the luxury of any leaders on his team to share the burden. I'm almost certain that Leeds will be relegated and hopefully Alan will be sold to a team where His skills can be fine-tuned.
