LONDON (AFP) - Manchester United captain Roy Keane, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gary Neville could face a police grilling over claims they made crude gestures and swore at Everton fans.
Around 50 supporters lodged complaints following the Manchester United trios celebration of their winning goal in the 4-3 victory at Goodison Park on Saturday.
Merseyside Police could seek interviews with the United stars over their future conduct, newspapers reported Wednesday. Everton have given supporters a week to put their complaints in writing and will pass the findings on to police chiefs.
Fans claim Keane flicked a V-sign and swore in front of the Family Stand.
Ronaldo and Nevilles alleged actions came at another part of the ground.
Ian Ross, Evertons director of corporate affairs, said: "We have received a number of complaints and have written to those people. We are seeking their further observations within seven days."
The Football Association will wait to see what action the police decide to take before revealing their next steps.
Inspector Tom King, football liaison officer for Merseyside Police, said: "If Everton decided it is appropriate to refer the matter to us we would take it further but at the moment there is no investigation."

When I read that article I couldn’t believe it, my first thought was, is this English fans or have I been transported to another universe. English fans are like their futbol, there rough there tough they never show an opponent any mercy and they never and I mean ever cry..

I can understand how they feel, I watched the game and when Ruud scored the game winner so late in the second half, and well you can imagine how they felt. But to lodged complaints with the police over the celebration is going way over the line.

It was directed towards the Family stand. Players are paid more than enough that they shouldn't have to swear and incite the opposition supporters. People can celebrate with passion without behaving like 12 year old children.

They deserve to get done for this.

Just because this punishment may seem severe doesn't negate from the fact that the three United players did something wrong. They deserve to be punished, and thats the end of it really.

Are these the innocent fans sitting in the "family stand"?

Anybody who thinks there would have been even 1 complaint had Rooney scored that equalizer at the very end is surely takin the piss.

There's only one person clearly swearing at the players, and he's only using the two fingered salute. It's also worth bearing in mind this shot seems to have been taken after the alleged incitement from the ManYoo players.

Anyone who has been to games knows it's completely inappropriate for players to run up to the crowd at an away match and starting swearing at them. The ManYoo players deserve to be in trouble and I hope some fines and bans are handed out.

Dear Lord, it looks as if the Brits are getting as sensitive and politically correct as we here in the States are. Sad. Please fight against it. I was hoping to return to Europe to get away from all the cry-babying and apologies for the slightest thing here in the USA, but that's all for nothing if it's going on now across the pond. There's gotta be someplace left in the world where people aren't so damn sensitive.

I completely agree with both of you, if the player(s) conduct themselves unfit professionals and disrespected the fans I think they should be fined, but they should be fined by the League and there team not the local police. The only time the police should get involved is if a player physically attacked a fan, that’s it….

btw nice pic Motterman

I don't want to get into a pissing match, but there are plenty of instances where players have been "provocative"....

Fowler telling our fans to "F--k off" after missing a chance on Saturday...

Henry for blowing kisses at the same Everton "family stand" ealier this season...

This is a slippery slope they will start going down if anything comes of this.

I still say that if Everton had drawn or won this match, there'd be no "reports" or laughable "investigations"....

I just think people need to take a common sense approach to all this.

The major reason most people go to games is the atmosphere. It is the feeling of actually having some interaction with the players and some influence on the end result. If we didn't feel that then how many people would pay £25 when they could be sat in a nice warm pub with a few drinks and get not only a better view in most cases but also the chance to see replays.

The fans love the banter, it is half of the experience and as soon as you take that away you will lose something from the game.

Also before anybody says "Spare the children" or some such rubbish, the kids are already corrupted. When I went to Blackburn-Man Utd a few months ago there was a child of about 10 on his own in the away end screming abuse at the players throughout the game.

Thank you...there's still hope.
