My Email sent to him:
Hey Kevin how is it going...?Your name has been bounced around the Salvadoran media alot, Last year El Grafico had an article on you and your accomplishments in the L.A.soccer scene....Well what I wanted to know was, what are the chances of you ever playing for El Salvador whether its the youth side U-20 or the Mens side.

Has anybody in El Salvador contacted you regarding a call up to the team, word around is that you had contact with La Chelona Rodriguez. How do you feel about a possible opportunity to play for El Salvador?

There are other players in the US that have shown interest in playing for ES like Gerson Mayen & Arturo Alvarez..., FIFA states that players need to choose a country to play for before they turn 21 or they will be cap tied to the current country they have played for... Im pretty sure you know the situation with Arturo Alvarez, FIFA laws are prohibiting him from playing for El Salvador since he is 23 and chosed to late to play for ES... So as for Gerson Mayen and You, you guys made need to make an important decision before you guys tun 21 to which country you will decide to play or you may be cap tied to the US, since you guys already played for them...

Well I hope I receive a response from you soon, good luck with your soccer career, is exciting to hear there are many Salvadoran players doing great things around the world...If you would ever like to discuss your situation with Salvadoran/America soccer fans your more than welcome to stop by BigSoccer.com (http://bigsoccer.com/) in the El Salvador forum, where we discuss everything regarding players playing abroad and other subjects....

His reply:
Hello ****,
I'm doing fine. Playing for the academy league getting ready for college. I'm leave in august to Boston. I'm flattered that there is articles of me in El Grafico. As far as playing for el salvador, honestly I would love to have a chance to represent the whit and blue, but I haven't got any calls for any camps or friendly games.

There's nothing I can do till I get a call from the federation and same thing wit the other young salvadorian players that are here. All of us would like a chance to play but nothing is being done. None of us are getting called. Its not that we don't want to. Its just that no moves are being made by the federation.

I hope I've answered your questions. If u need any other imformation feel free to contact me at this email. Or at my phone number ********** Thanks for everything. Take care

The fed wouldn't know a diamond if they held it in their hands. I post at El Grafico, and would like to quote your exchange with Kevin. I won't 'till it's OK with you Firpo84, since its a personal exchange of e-mails with the kid.

I think the fesfut needs to learn their lesson from the Alvarez case and get on the ball with the other possible players.

???

What could they have done? He was in the US youth system very early, showed every will to play for them and stated that desire time and again. He was even in a couple of Olympic camps when he was 23, with every desire to play for the US and stated it many times (he actually was penciled in as a starter in the last camp and then played horribly to get dropped). He didn't get called for the Nats in Jan and changed his mind...and played dumb about the rules.

His will/heart and opportunity to play for the US was clearly there until about Jan. He had a very good shot at making the Olympic team and then by all accounts just choked and was outperformed.

What was the Fed supposed to do? It's fun to blame Feds in general, especially when the talent isn't there (gotta blame someone), but he wasn't going anywere until this Jan passed.

Getting your hooks into players before they are affiliated with anyone is the way to earn their loyalty.

OTOH, you can spend a lot of time, effort and a lot of money running around trying to cap players who aren't very good in the first place. Costs a lot of money and time. Better get results if you are gonna look at every 14-18 year old out there. Also gonna piss off a lot of your own homegrown players if you go running around to another country just to bring in average players.

It just isn't as easy as posting on a Net board.

Landon Donovan and Hugo Perez, prob the best US players ever grew up playing soccer around Salvadorans so I dont think they are average players.

They are not from Ghana, they have Salva blood you knew that?

What are you crying anyway, you send your players to England and most of the time you have used foreign players in the team so stop crying about our business.

Landon Donovan is no way in hell at all Salvadoran. He grew up about 20 minutes from where I lived. There's hardly as big a presence of Salvadorans as you make it out to be. Also if I recall correctly, Hugo Perez approached the Fesfut but was rejected, so he chose to play for his adopted country. Cheers

I didnt pay for his tickets and not im not an agent.

I guess he came here and was reading a lot of my post so he sent me a pm telling me he wanted to try out, he used to play somewhere in college in north carolina and he played odp.

I have a lot of friends in Aguila so I talked to some of my friends and they went to pick him up at the airport. Zapata said he wasnt better than the players Aguila had back then and he had to use a foreign spot.

I told him to be aware of that, he had to be better than brazilians and argentinos. He said that he wanted to give it a try that he was really confidence he could do it, he was going to pay for his plane ticket.

My friend told me that a lot of the fans actually like the way he played a practice but like I say, he was not better than the foreign players we had back then.

I used to play for the Aguila Academy remember? I played vrs chamba, and a couple of other kids in liga mayor in las infantiles and juveniles.

As far as Landon not being Salvadoran, I never said that. He said he used to play around many latinos, and I didnt know there were not Salvadorans in San Jose

The reason Perez didnt make it is bc we did have really good players back then, Im sure they could have an spot for Perez but we still had good skilled players.

Landon grew up in Redlands, Ca.That's about an hour and a half east of Los Angeles. If anything, there are more mexican's here than anything. That's how he learned to speak spanish so well.

I lived in San Bernandino county (Fontana, Ca) and I was able to meet maybe 2 Salvadoran in all of my elementary and middle school years, I grew up around a bunch of mexicans. I use to go to Redlands, Ca all the time to watch my older practice and play in Los Gauchos club team. He said Landon Donovan played in Los Gauchos but i'm not sure if i believe him. He also said he played against him when he was in high school back in the late 90s.

He is German/Salvadoran Steve Purdey....But he may be in the same boat as Arturo Alvarez...Its seems that he's been called up in the past to some US youth training camps and also played with the US U-20 in a friendly game against Brazil. He was also in the USMNT roster in the friendly game against Switzerland back in October 17 2007, but it seems that he didnt get any playing time. So who knows if he is eligible to play for ES...

His name is Steve Purdy I wouldn't be too optimistic.

Esto también fue secundado por Jaime Rodríguez, asistente técnico. “Él lo dijo claro: ilusión es jugar para la selección de Estados Unidos”, añadió “la Chelona”sobre el jugador de 1.95 metros de estatura

I'm not saying i wouldn't want the best talent available. However, i think being a part of "La Selecta" is more than just talent.
