Horrible trade.

I don't see too much of a point in this trade, but they did pick up a better backup center (Mohammed), and Thomas is a little younger than Van Horn. Frankly, I'm surprised it took this long to move KVH. I like the guy, but the second Marbury came on board, the writing was on the wall.

The Knicks traded Van Horn to Milwaukee, Doleac to Atlanta while Milwaukee sent Thomas to NY, Przybilla to Atlanta and Atlanta sent Mohammed to NY.

Trades usually make sense once you look at the salary numbers.
Van Horn - $13.3 million - signed through '06 (player option)
Thomas - $11.8 million - signed through '06
Przybilla - $2.3 million - restricted FA
Mohammed - $5 million - signed through '06
Doleac - $1.5 million - signed through '05 (player option)
It was obvious Van Horn was going to be gone from the first day of the Isiah Thomas era. But I'm surprised the Knicks put themselves in a deeper salary cap hell for Tim Thomas and Nazr Mohammed, neither of whom exactly set the world on fire.
It's very simple for the Hawks, of course. They save themselves $3.5 to 5 million at the end of the season, which will let them pick up a useful veteran or two in addition to whatever they can get with their Abdur-Rahim/Ratliff cap space. The Hawks are in a position to make a Nuggets-style turnaround if they can play the cards right. Of course, they could end up like the Magic or the Bulls.
I'm not quite sure what the Bucks are trying to achieve here. Neither Przybilla nor Thomas were going to a part of their system, but why sacrifice cap space for Keith Van Horn. If the wanted someone to shoot jumpers and not defend, they already have Toni Kukoc.

i like this trade. Thomas is very talented but hasn't proven it so far. Coming home (he's from jersey) may be a good thing for him, van horn was gone as soon as isiah came and mohammed is better than doleac

May also be a bad move for Tim Thomas, who should have stayed in college (damn, that list just keeps getting longer, doesn't it?). He's had a problem with maturity, and I don't know that giving him 11 million a year and a job 15 miles from his old friends is a great idea either. Hopefully he's grown up a bit, and Marbury can straighten him out a bit.
I think, realistically, if you look at KVH, he wasn't going to help the Knicks win a championship. Saving a bit of money, getting a more physical player, a more athletic player, is a good deal. Mohammed is a more realistic NBA option at back up center than Doleac (long term).
I'm happier about this than I would have been getting Rasheed Wallace, who is just too insane to be allowed out of his own house.

And there goes the remnants of the Late 90s/Early 00s Bucks. The Big Three is all gone, as is their former heir apparent. What this does for the Bucks, basically, is say to Michael Redd, TJ Ford, and Desmond Mason that this it their team. Van Horn will be fine and all, but he'll have to take a backseat for Milwaukee. I don't know that he'll even start (a lot of people have been wanting Mason to start for Thomas.)

Sports Illustrated's breakdown of the trade: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2004/basketball/nba/02/15/vanhorn.analysis/
This is one of those trades that should work out for all parties involved. You know, I've been outspoken here about my doubts over Isiah, but I have to give it to him - he came in with a plan and completely overhauled the team. He took a slow, jump shooting team into a more athletic squad built around Marbury. They're still not going to beat Indiana/Detroit in the conference finals, but they can get there.

The trade was made to finally get rid of the last remnants of the Layden regime. I really think that was the only problem with KVH, who had been playing perfectly good b-ball.
Nazr Mohammed was the guy the knicks traded for - Tim Thomas was for monetary numbers.

Actually rumors have it that Wallace will most likely be a Knick he wants to be in NY.
Think about this team:
Mutumbo/Mohammed/or somebody else they get
K. Thomas
Wallace
Houston
Marbury
Pretty sick.

The team shrink would get much attention from that team. :D

Rumor is that they would have to give up half the roster, so you can take Kurt Thomas off of that list (and Mutombo if the rumor is accurate). Sweetney and Frank Williams are also lumped into the possible deal.

Yep.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1737704
A source told the Times that the Knicks would have to offer Kurt Thomas, Othella Harrington, Dikembe Mutombo and another player, perhaps Mike Sweetney or Frank Williams, in order to work a trade for Wallace. In addition, another team might have to be involved for a three-way deal.

Knicks boss Isiah Thomas has made no secret of his interest in Wallace, but it seems unlikely Atlanta would take on any of New York's bloated contracts.
The Hawks might, however, take a long look at the Pistons' offer, reported in Tuesday's New York Post, of expiring contracts (Bob Sura, Lindsey Hunter, Zeljko Rebraca, Darvin Ham and Tremaine Fowlkes) and a No. 1 draft pick. The idea is that the Hawks aren't going anywhere this season anyway, so they could add a draft pick while shaving a little more of this year's payroll.
Less than 15 hours to go until the trade deadline. This is one of my favorite parts of the regular season.

My line-up is based on them signing him during the summer once he becomes a free agent.
