Still, how much does this improve the Yanks over what they would have had:

Soriano + Boone

or

Miguel Cairo/Enrique Wilson platoon + ARod

It's notsomuch how much it improves the Yankees as it is how much of a kick in the balls it is to Sox fans.

And that's never a bad thing.

Given that Steinbrenner has a budget larger than the military, he couldn't have constructed a weaker team. Soriano is the only underpaid guy on the team. The rest are making WAAAY above market value. And he's going to leave the crappy SS and move the Gold Glover to 3B??? Part of me thinks this is an attempt to bait the Red Sox into getting A-Rod. It makes no sense.

The American League has become the EPL with my Rangers starring in the role of Leeds.

A pox on both their houses.

As a Yankee fan, this is really funny. Poor old Red Sox were trying to complete a trade what seemed like forever to get A-Rod. They didnt pony up enough money now George comes in and steal him.

No wonder everyone else hates the Yankees! :D

Oh Puh Lease. Yankees still suck. Where's the pitching at? Not in NY. Sure I'm dissapointed, but I know the Red Sox still have the better team.

Aside from the fact that ARod is the better SS and better hitter, why would you play your best player out of position? Whatever.......This exactly the kind of crap that makes me hate the Yankees, but AFL is right. Anytime you can poke the Sox in the eye is fine by me.

The Yankees have just aquired the best player in the game. How anyone can say this doesn't improve the club is beyond belief. When the opportunity presents itself to get such a player, nothing should sway one away from doing it.

Initially, Jose Contreres was part of the discussion in this deal. The fact is the Yanks didn't have to give up any pitching, which is the last thing they should yield. Furthermore, it appears Texas will be paying $67 million of A-Rod's remaining salary. That means the Yanks will be getting the guy for about $15 million-a-year, over the course of seven more seasons! Sorry, but this was a no-brainer.

Ultimately, it would probably be better if Alex plays short and Derek moves to second. The double-play combination of the century. Erick Almonte can play third.

It is to the credit of Brian Cashman for agressively pursuing this and George Steinbrenner for managing to poke the eyes out of both the Red Sox and the Mets in a single move.

The Red Sox tried to be cheap and negotiate A-Rod's contract down, and the Mets front office is such a bunch of bungling stooges they should be awarded an MLS franchise.

I wonder if this leaves the door open for the Red Sox to acquire Soriano from the Rangers to play second base in Boston?

Hmmm...

and trade him for Pokey? I dunno. Pokey is a better defensive 2B then Soriano, and Soriano has struggled the past few years, but I'm sure Soriano would be "reborn" if he joined the Red Sox, just so he can stick it to the Yankees.

Once again, pitching wins championships. Arod is going to make the Yankees a lot better, but the Yankees are held up by the mear fact that they don't have a left handed starter. Its a big deal because they play in a park that is a left handed pitchers park. Now I'm about 95% positive that the Yankees will get a left handed starter before the trade deadline, but will have to pay for it in prospects and luxury taxes. Puttin my love for the Red Sox and hatred for the Yankees aside, I still have to go with the Red Sox as the favorites to win the East. They are more polished then the Yankees. They don't have any huge distractions and an owner who will fire the manager if they lose 3 straight. When the Yankees choke, blame your almighty boss.

Honestly, I can't help but smile when it's on the news. I wouldn't have pulled the Manny-for-A-Rod-sending-Nomar-to-Chicago deal in the first place. And now A-Rod's going to be playing an unfamiliar position.

Overall, I think Soriano's departure makes the whole thing a wash. All it really accomplished was riling some Red Sox fans.

I don't really care anymore. It'll all come out in the wash.

Joe Torre's lasted longer than anyone since Casey Stengel, I think. George isn't canning him. And the Yankees chances of losing three in a row this season have just greatly diminished.

And A-Rod isn't going to be a "huge distraction," if that's what you meant. He's a very low-key, stable, likable guy. If anything, his presence will enhance the Yankee clubhouse, not disturb it.

Not if A-Rod were playing short, it wouldn't be.

Honestly, if it'd been up to me, I'd've moved Jeter to third and kept A-Rod in his natural position.

But with a forced move and weak backup for Soriano, yeah, it's a wash, maybe a slight advantage for the Yankees, but it's not the earth-shattering move people want it to be.

how bout the much publicized tension between Jeter and Arod. Arod is a 10X better shortstop then Jeter, and the first injury to Jeter, Arod will be all over that shortstop position and wont give it up.

And if you thought the tension between Arod and Jeter was a lot, thats nothing compared to the one between Torre and The Boss. Torre is a lame duck this season, he doesn't care if he gets fired or not. And how does Arod keep the Yankees from losing 3 straight. THEY DON'T HAVE PITCHING! That's what it comes down to.

All pending Union and Selig's approval. Maybe Selig will get some common sense and veto the trade because its bad for baseball.

Even if the scores are 13-12 or 19-18 by the ninth inning, we bring in Mariano and he closes the door.
