New "Fan" From Miami

I am an Uruguayan soccer fan living in Miami.

I was obvously rooting for the upcoming Miami bid, that was shut down. I am torn right now. I dont know whether to wish MLS failure or to become another team's fan until Miami joins, if it ever happens.

Before the Miami bid, if I had to choose a team in the MLS, I would've said DC United, and have watched a couple of games, but havent become a fan.

So I think that's what I'm going to do. You guys have a pretty nice "barra", and have a bunch of games in National TV, so I'll be able to watch those.

Can you guys give me some backgroud info on the team, the tradition, etc.

So the main rival are the Red Bulls. That's nothing new with me living in Miami already hating NY teams.

I go to Washington "often", so hopefully I'll go to a game sometime.

I have been a fan since the second season, even though I live around 2000 kms away. It's easy to watch a lot of games, especially if you get the MLS package on DirecTV. There are a few reasons why you would be cheating yourself if you did not support DC United.

1. Coolest kits.
2. Best history, though the very best years were ten years ago.
3. Everyone loves to hate us because we are so good.
4. You will find DC fans in almost every city in the country. Even in Fargo, North Dakota, there are a few of us who watch games together.
5. There are maybe two teams in MLS who are known worldwide, and we are one of them. The other is an awful team on the Pacific coast who don't deserve all the breaks the MLS has given them.

Unless the economy picks up real fast, it will be several years before that might be considered again. And as the author states in the article, the fact that so many soccer fans in Miami only support teams outside the USA, really makes an MLS franchise in Miami a non-starter.

MLS DK is sort of like the NFL package in that most of the games are at the same time.

However, as a DCU fan it's worth it.

I try to fly down for a few games a year, but...

80$ and I am sure to get pretty much every DCU MLS season game and playoffs!

(That's about the same $$ for one nice dinner out for two here in Boston.)


It's definitely worth it. I also feel like it's one more thing to support the league.

Another DC United fan here from Miami...been following the team ever since the fusion turned into dust. Attended a couple of games, great atmosphere, tradition, and black on black kits always rock lol

Palm Beach Gardens here. Not that close, but also not that far from Miami either. Surprised this thread wasn't moved . :D

well they have the biggest trouphy case in mls. They're known for having amazing fans that will go to the ends of the earth for their team.
