I see the Post today has another article, this one extended, on Adu... someone please call the editors to tell them that D.C. United Squad is not a one-person team! "Adu's mind"? What next... "Analyzing Fredy's Sock Choice"?

I wish I could disagree, but I can't.

I, too, am bothered by all of this; Freddy is not the only player in MLS or for DC United, but I keep trying to tell myself that it's good for the sport. The more fans that are generated by all the press on Freddy, it can only be positive, can't it? Perhaps if Freddy draws in new fans to the game, we'll finally get some better press coverage and be able to watch more games on "normal" tv channels - games at all levels. I find myself being asked about him by people I know that have never been into the sport before, so I do have hope!!!

I am back up here in the cold now and I do not think we will have a ton of Freddy stuff again until his first game, unless of course he does something newsworthy to merit it.
everyone should feel more at ease now, we are returning more or less to our normal level of pre-season coverage, which is little to none. i wonder if people in cleveland are whining this much over james. do you really think they are writing these articles for you anyway? this is for the masses, we have somebody the whole nation is curious about. that is a good thing, not a bad thing.
i guess i just don't understand all he fuss being made about these articles, it is only the first few days of spring training. you guys can't help but complain. united doesn't even have their reporters doing real stories yet. i also don't remember united getting much press at this time of the year before freddy was around, so were not losing content, were gaining content!
what did you think was going to happen anyway. take a deep breathe and try to lose the chip on your shoulder. i thought adu was the fourteen year old still learning maturity. he is well beyond his years next to you guys.
if united finally starts to win again, there will be plenty of coverage this season.

Washington, D.C.: Hi Jason - as a stalwart DC United fan since day one, I'm as excited as anyone about the upcoming season. But in chatting with a fellow footie fan last night (perhaps he's slighty less fanatical than I...), he voiced concern that he's seeing the beginnings of "Freddy overkill" (witness 5 consecutive days of your Freddy stories!). Do you see a challenge in balancing reasonable exposure of the Adu phenomenon with the genuine risk of turning a potentially significant portion of readership off? Another less worrisome but still genuine concern of mine is of the press turning DC United into a one-player team. Thanks for listening...
Jason La Canfora: That's a good question. We did a lot of Freddy stuff because this is a once in a lifetime story and these were his last days as as student and firest real dasy as a pro. I am back up here in the cold now and I do not think we will have a ton of Freddy stuff again until his first game, unless of course he does somethign newsworthy to merit it. This really is a story that transcends sports and has so many nuances to it, as well as a strong local angle, and we want to be comprehensive, especially as it just begins to unfold. But I understand your concern and can assure you more than just Freddy will be covered, it's just that he was kind of the big story this week.

i'm not bothered by it at all, in fact i'm glad somebody is taking the time to chronical his first days as a pro.

Anyone know if he got a suntan... that would be really interesting. How about a stubbed toe during practice? I'd be really facinated in that! What's his locker number? Does he wear rub on underarm deoderant or go natural? Any change we could get some in-depth detail on his bowl movements or his favorite type of soup/salad? You think he uses Thousand Island or French dressing? Is he a veggie or meateater?
Let's get the lowdown dirt... I want it all... alladu, allthetime!

Um, folks, a little perspective here. Beyond our little cabal for DCU fans here, Freddy is a much bigger story than United. Also, these articles on Freddy aren't in the least subtracting from the Post's coverage of United.

well said gary! maturity was never a strong point for most BS posters. They aren't happy unless they are complaining about something

Thanks for the link, Danielle! Any coverage is good coverage. I have people I've bored for years with my passion for soccer who are seeking me out to ask about Adu and the coming seasonOriginally posted by IntheNet

Four long, well done features from spring training on DC United, coupled with full coverage of the U23s, and occassional updates on other matters (Moreno, Quintanilla) and some of you guys are complaining?
Man, that's like not getting any for a while and then getting laid by a hotty three-times a day for a week and then complaining that she didn't give you a blow job!
Sure, the hummer would be a nice change of pace, but after what you were getting before - nada - you shouldn't be complaining about the sex you're getting, BJ or no.

I am sure the people who are complaining will be happy now, as there will not be any more DC United coverage for another month.
Nobody at work ever talked to me about soccer, until now...
We need more Adu, not less!

Geez, who was it (besides Monty Python of course) who said: the only thing worse that being talked about is not being talked about.? The coverage of soccer in the Post the past few days is almost (but not quite) as good as the coverage the Skins get for a freaking mini-camp!

You are treading on very dangerous ground here.
I reserve the right to complain for any reason at any time. Oh and who do you think you are? Ray Hudson? Speaking of Ray, any bets on where and when he'll resurface?
