Yes, he has been excellent all season. For his age he is really class. I feel he'll have a very, very strong career. Definitely an NT-worthy player.

I agree. Sometimes I wonder how Tasci can get called up so much and Khedira isn't.

That's bullshit man. Schäfer was one of your problems in 07/08, not the ONLY one.

well , probably not title contenders because bayern were running away with it, but he cost them a lot of points, at least 8-10. and if you add 10 points to stuttgart last year they would be fighting for 2. and 3.

If he keeps his form or even improves it next season, call him up once the season starts or middle of the season. Tasci really should of not gotten so many games Footy, though I think unfortunately Loew has his favorites and sticks by them.

I'm not saying that we would have won it, but we would have been up there. And I cannot think of another difference that has been that big between 06/07 and 07/08, as well as between 07/08 and 08/09.

However, to be fair, another major reason why we won in 07 and are considered to be a contender today (at least by borussia ;)) is that the other teams competing for the title have been crap.

I'd say Gomez, 29 goals man.. 29 goals!

Tasci was in a phase where he made several mistakes though, he has been solid at times and average other games. More like going through phases.

Gomez has been fantastic but I think he meant throughout the entire course of the season. I would go as far as to say that Jens has been more important. But really Babel should be given a lot of credit.

Who's to say the problems with Veh didn't start last season?

Ever thought of that?

Ah, kicker ratings are misleading though when it comes to keepers as goalkeepers tend to receive more lenient marks than field players ;) Jens has been up there though either way, but for the third season in a row I think it would have to be said that Gomez has been our runaway best player.

As for Tasci:
Well I think Khedira has class, as I said. BUT I also think Tasci has class. Tasci has been our best defender this season, and considering we've got a lot of ability in defence in the likes of Delpierre and Boulahrouz, that is saying a lot. Tasci exploded onto the scene in the title-year, playing a big role that no one had seen coming. Last year he didn't continue his development and really wasn't very good. But then in the last 12 months he has developed enormously and is now a very, very good defender in my opinion.

He's strong, wins almost all his one-on-ones, is a good man-marker, is technically solid, good in the air, makes few bloopers, AND he can provide an attacking threat as well. For me, he is the prototype modern class defender.

It's no coincidence scouts from Chelsea, Arsenal and Milan are rumoured to have been checking him out.

He's really good. I don't think he's shown this in the NT yet, against Wales for example he was poor, but in the future he will. Already now he is in my opinion (and i'm sure many will disagree) among the 2-3 best German central defenders.

He's got a big career ahead of him, just like Sami. And I think Tasci, if he continues along this path, will by the 2010 WC be a no-brainer for a starting position. People who just watch Germany will think i'm really exagerrating here. But seeing him play every single week, I have trouble thinking of a better German central defender in the Bundesliga. We'll see.

Yeah, I agree this season is all about Babbel. He has transformed the team from being a frustrating, uncreative and unmotivated team under Veh into a really really strong side. Kinda like Veh himself did 2 years ag.

As for us being title contendets - well i've been looking at the different possibilities through kicker's 'tabellenrechner' and the only realistic way we could become champions is if we won all 6 remaining matches. Including at home to Wolfsburg, away to Schalke, and away to Bayern on the last day.

So, I went away on Vacation to Jamaica, and was only able to catch the Champions Leage and UEFA Cup matches last week at the pub.....

But suddenly I return home, look at the table, and holy crap!

I'm moving to Stuttgart in time to make the Cottbus match. A couple months ago, when I learned my arrival date, I thought it would be a fun diversion, but a match in which not much was at stake....

Now.....holy crap!

See you there!

I don't think they are more "lenient" with keepers, I believe it is just that keepers usually get fewer chances to screw up.

But when keepers do screw up, they are hit big time. Even for just one screw-up.

Field players can screw up the entire match, score a goal and their screw-ups are largely forgotten.

But as a personal rule, I don't usually consider goalkeepers when trying to determine the best player on a team.

Except for circumstances like we see with Enke in Hannover and we saw for a few years with Kahn at Bayern where they are/were clearly the best and most valuable players on their teams.

Frankfurt at home today!

Really a game we are expected to win. We're on form, playing at home, Frankfurt are safe from relegation, so I find it hard to see us not winning this one. But, then again, we'll need to play the 90 minutes first. There's Bayern-Schalke today and Dortmund-Hamburg. Basically, if we win, we could see ourselves closer to some of our rivals ahead of us, or we could see ourselves widening the gap to the teams behind us. So either way, if we win, this will be a good weekend. So the boys better win. :)

Some team news:
Osorio could be out for the season due to a stones problem (dunno how you say it in English), which sucks for him, I wish him a quick recovery! And Hitz misses today with a suspension.

Here's the side:
-----------------Lehmann
Traesch----Tasci------Delpierre---Magnin
------------Lanig----Khedira
Hilbert----------------------------Gebhart
------------Gomez----Cacau

Halftime we're up 1-0!

Cacau with the goal, but we haven't been palying great. Frankfurt had a huge chance to equalize through Fenin but he hit the post. And we haven't been at 100% today. Doesn't matter so long as we win, but I hope we can quickly double the lead after halftime so that we can rest a little easier.

The other games are going our way at the moment, Bayern and Hamburg are both behind.

So this could turn into a very nice spieltag. But first, we'll have to bring the 3 points home. I hope we do.

Game over.

And check these standings out:

1. Wolfsburg 57 (play tomorrow...)
2. Hertha 55
3. Bayern 54
4. VfB 54
5. HSV 54

We've tied ScheissBayern and Hamburg!! One point behind second place! And if Wolfsburg drop points tomorrow then suddenly it's all very, very close. Let's not get carried away, they probably won't lose points tomorrow, but reality is that resultswise this has been an awesome, awesome Saturday.

It'll be hard not to start dreaming if the boys keep this up.

Great day for us with the win and Bayern and HSV both losing. Now I hope Hertha and HSV draw next weekend and we beat Bielefeld, and those results wouldn't surprise me at all.
