Regarding the question whether Stuttgart will ever attract big stars, I'd say that the only chance is for the Bundesliga to gain in stature.

The best Stuttgart can hope for is to consistently play in Europe, but that alone won't be enough.

Incidentally, Real Madrid could actually help the Bundesliga here. Their current spending spree could cause the UEFA to introduce more rigid accounting rules, similar to those already in place in Germany. Should that ever happen, then the Bundesliga might turn out to be a big winner, including Stuttgart.

Good comments. But you have to understand where EQ is coming from.

EQ probably doesn't give a rat's ass about VfB as a club.

I think he only cares that you guys do well in Europe to raise Germany's coefficient ranking.
That's pretty much it. Well when German clubs play in Europe, I always go and root for them for coefficient and I want them to do well because they are a German club. I'm just worried you guys will spend the entire summer just to sign one player.

I know it's possible to sign others and such, I hope you do. Anyways good luck and sorry if it sounded offensive Rainer. :o

Totally agree. But if they try to make spending rules 'too rigid', the "SuperLeague" talk will come flying back again.

This is why UEFA probably won't do anything.

They want to keep getting their cut.

Nah, it didn't sound offensive. I just know we aren't going to be a club that is going to be spending 50 or even 30 million € every summer.

Well I know that of coarse. However considering you've got 30-35m from Gomez alone and 10-15m to spend from actual funding of CL/income, you should be able to spend a lot this summer for 3 players. Striker, midfielder and full-back.

EQ, rarely does a club spend all monies made on players. They can't. There are other costs.

Not everyone has 'sponsors' like Bayern does to feed them the money for the rest.....

It might be one hell of a task to get there in the first place.

Guys, you will hear rumors that Milan might be coming back in for Huntelaar as they are having a hard time getting the Luis Fabiano deal done.

It will be mostly lazy "journalists" trying to fill space. It won't make any sense because Milan doesn't want to pay 20M for Fabiano and you guys have already set the bar at 20M for Huntelaar.

The only way Milan could hijack your deal is if they get Huntelaar to talk Real into accepting 15M for a deal he'd take.

I don't see that happening though. I think Milan is still going to try to wait out Sevilla for Luis Fabiano.......

Yeah, I don't think there's much to it.

I read that Madrid is only taking 18M+2 for Huntelaar, with the stipulation being that we qualify for CL next season.

Yeah, we'd pay another 2 million on top of the 18 million that we'd start with over Huntelaar. Fair enough really, since making the Champions League group stages is essential (and would be wonderful).

Anyway i'm optimistic that Huntelaar will soon be on his way.

@Equilibrium
We may have earned 35 million for Gomez, but a lot goes to tax and other club finances. And the Champions League money we cannot yet countdown (or rather, we could, but the club doesn't want to go through the risk of not making the Gruppenphase, not sure if I agree with that) since we aren't qualified to the tourney yet, all in all we can probably spend 25 million euros this summer or so. With 20 on Huntelaar we could stil, hopefully, buy a good winger for the last 5-7 million. As for fullback, we have already gotten one with Celozzi. He's not a star but he's an up-and-comer and I have a good feeling about him.

I hope they can work out a contract. I'm nervous as it drags out, I think deep down Huntelaar would like to see a bigger club step up and offer more salary and is delaying.

however, if they got it done, it would take away a lot of the sting of losing Gomez. Even if I'm not sure that Huntelaar would stay long. I think a year or two tops and he would look to move on. But it would be a good bit of business.

That's what I've been saying the entire time. Rumors fly about other clubs, but not one that makes any sense.

But today I am worried. It seems that Arsenal and Man City have agreed on a 28 Million Pound transfer of Emmanuel Adebayor from Arsenal to Man City.

Arsenal is a club who I would worry about coming for Huntelaar.

They would have an amazing strike force up front with van Persie, Walcott and Huntelaar with Arshavin attacking from midfield.

Only if he actually puts up "Gomez-like" numbers. Maybe not the same numbers or better, but "Gomez-like"......

It would be only if you can sell him along for the same price or more than what you pay for him.

If the deal happens.

I have a question I don't think I've asked before.

If the Huntelaar deal somehow does not pan out, does anyone know if VfB has a viable "Plan B?"

Who knows?

Huntelaar doesn't seem like a Wenger player to me.

It seems as if Vagner Love would be our Plan B. He apparently said that he would like to come to Stuttgart. Wouldn't be any cheaper though.

Vagner Love - and I will quickly add that if Huntelaar didn't come, Love would in my opinion also be a very good buy so I would love to see him at the club as well.

We're all concentrating on getting Huntelaar now and with good reason, but if the deal falls apart and we got Love instead, the management would still have done it's job imo.

I forgot about Love. Thanks for your responses.

And I also agree that Love would be a good replacement.

I would rather have you guys get someone who actually wants to be in Stuttgart.

What's a "Wenger Player" seem like to you and why doesn't Huntelaar seem like one to you?

Robin van Persie has been one hell of a "Wenger Player" and there isn't that much difference between him and Huntelaar.

I don't have time to work on translating nor have I read the article linked below fully.

Can one of you explain it if you have the time??

Thanks.
