I still believe for 15 million i'm happy to have him. 20 is too much, 15 is pushing it but OK in my book. Though at the end of the day it won't come down to how much we paid for him, but rather how well he plays for us.
By the way Pascal Breier hit all 3 goals in the final, congrats to him! In 3-4 years he could turn into a good one. :)

Demba failed in the Rueckrunde ? Who did not for Hoffenheim during that bad time ?
To be fair, he was Hoffenheims best striker in the last 17 games, his development was one of the best, that was more impressive than Obasi (and THAT is some quality player).
No doubts, I have not seen any more elegant striker for this height than Demba, I don't call him 'artist' for nothing.
I am not sure, if he can replace Gomez, there do is much individual quality (in Demba) but he was a big part for Hoffenheim, and he had wonderful players like Obasi, Eduardo, Salihovic around him, which Stuttgart has not.
Thanks, atleast someone who can give reasonable answers!
I am well aware Demba Ba is a talented player but as a flexible forward we already have Cacau. Marica and Schieber are still only backups. Which means Demba Ba would have to replace Gomez as the main goal source for a Bundesliga topside. Last session similar positions were occupied by Pizarro in Bremen, Toni in München, Dzeko in Wolfsburg and Gomez in Stuttgart. All these players score atleast 12 goals in a good half-session.
So you would say Demba Ba's low efficiency was due to the overall bad form of Hoffenheim and he will score more than 7 goals when playing as centerforward in an intakt squad? Sorry if I annoy someone but I think this question is reasonable.

Berloha, was I wrong to say "Obasi was the one who utterly failed?" in the second half of the season??
well, it is actually hard to rate Edu during the second half of the season, because he was never fit, and he just made 13 games, 9 of them the full 90 minutes. Yes, he dissappointed in some of these games, but due to his injuries it is not very fair to rate him.
;)

If there is one big thing where Ba can improve it is his efficiency. That and Ba's header's are the two thing which seperate Ba from Gomez.
He did improved during the last games, but he also missed some big chances. The biggest problem I see on the sport side, if Demba Ba can take advantage of the Stuttgart creative players like he could when he was having a Carlos Eduardo behind him...

I thought Ba did well even when Eduardo was out.
Stuttgart fans, any chance of Timo Gebhart seeing more time this season?
He's more of an attacker, but he can make things happen for others too.

Serbian medias have reported that Stuttgart have agreed all details with Milan Jovanovic. We will see what becomes of it.

Well, he did play fairly regularly towards the end of the season, so I would think that his chances are pretty good for next season as well.
We have quite a few players who can play on the wings (hopefully we can get rid of some of them before the season begins [Bastürk anyone?]), but even though Gebhart is still pretty young, he is already one of the best. Hilbert has been stagnating at best, ever since 2007. Bastürk has pretty much failed, as did Simak. Elson has had a couple of great games but he's no regular. Lanig has been playing on the wings before, but his natural position is CM and occasionally, Boka has been playing there, but again, this is not his position. Which leaves Rudy, but he'll probably need some more time before he can break into the first team, let alone get a starting spot.
So even if we get an additional player for our flanks like Jovanovic or Barnetta, I think Gebhart has a good chance of getting a starting spot.

Yeah, apparently we've agreed with him a long time ago. Problem is that Liege wants some of the Gomez money. Right now they're asking for €8 mio, even though Milan only has one year left to his contract. I'm pretty sure that we won't pay more than €5 mio. So if Liege insists on their high price, I don't think it'll happen.

Thinking about it, maybe we can do a swap...like Bastürk + €4mio for Jovanovic. :D
That would solve most of our problems...we'd just have to hide the fact that Bastürk will be injured 9 out of 12 months a year.

LOL!! Another good one!!
The Belgian League might not be the toughest in Europe, but Standard didn't get to the top of it by being stupid! LOL!! :D
On a more serious note, I think Turkish teams are the only ones who'll go for Bastürk now.
With some of them, his name might still put some asses in the seats.

Yeah, that's what I think. The problem is Bastürk's salary though. I don't think any team will want to match what Stuttgart is paying.
On the other hand, Bastürk's chance on the Turkish NT would definitely increase by moving to Turkey, so he might be willing to take a slight hit to his salary. Plus, his contract ends next year, so this would also put him into a better position for future negotiations.

No team in their right mind would. To this day, I can't figure out what kind of drugs Horst Heldt was on to make him believe that Bastürk was worth 3M per.
Vfbstuttgartfan will tell you I constantly said paying Bastürk 3M per was a huge mistake.

Chances on the Turkish NT?? He hasn't appeared for them in two years.
I think that ship has possibly sailed.

I think we all agreed on that. Even for him coming on a free transfer, €3m was still ridiculous.

Don't forget though that Terim has shown to have a clear bias towards players playing in Turkey vs. players abroad.
If Bastürk moves to Turkey and if he succeeds there, I think he has a very real chance of returning to the NT. Granted, these are big IFs, but at least it's a chance as opposed to staying in Stuttgart and watching his NT on TV (and his club from the stand for that matter).

I don't think Terim really has that much of a bias toward domestically-based players. Tuncay and Altintop were arguably their best players at the Euros last summer and neither of them plays in Turkey. It just so happens that most of the best Turkish players play in Turkey. They make some damn good money, too. Not shocking that so few of them leave.
Anyway, I think the Jovanovic deal is as good as done, even if Liege are trying to up the price last minute. Heldt has already flown to Belgium in the last few days, so it seems like everything is getting sewn up there.
Bastürk's salary really is an albatross around our neck. Add my name to the list of people were scratching their head at the mere thought of him making that much money. Never figured to pay off. Heck. Maybe he'll have an injury free season and make us all eat our words. Yeah, right.

According to this "Bild" article (http://www.bild.de/BILD/sport/fussball/bundesliga/vereine/stuttgart/2009/07/01/demba-ba/hoffenheim-kriegt-12-millionen-euro.html), Hoffenheim and Stuttgart have agreed on a 12M Euro transfer fee for Hoffenheim striker Demba Ba to move to Stuttgart.

Well, if that's the actual price, well done to Heldt.

Nice to see Demba Ba in the red stripe. Now lets hope he doesn't cause Mr. Babbel the same kind of headaches he caused in Hoffenheim after a season or two........
A bit off topic, but fun (at least I thought)
The SV Vaihingen / VfB 100th anniversary friendly went off yesterday.
As one might expect, VfB romped to a 6-0 victory.
Magnin (C), Scheiber, Laning, and Delpierre were some of the more notable folks who showed....
There were a few moments of intent by SV Vaihingen, but as one might expect, they were outmatched at every turn.
However, most importantly, it's stayed truly friendly on the pitch, the crowd seemed to have a lot of fun, there was no rain, I had two rot wursts, a magnum and Dinkel Ackers, and I even won an SV Vaihingen t shirt from the tombola.
A nice evening out. I'm very glad to be back in Germany.

BTW, with all the jersey talk going on, I realized that we haven't had an image of our next jersey on this thread, even though it has been official for quite some time now. Anyway, here it is:
http://www.vfb-sport-shop.de/$WS/vfb-stuttgart/websale7_shop-vfb-stuttgart/produkte/medien/bilder/gross/2600_sz.jpg
I have to say that I'm not a big fan. Sure, the traditional Stuttgart design is awesome, and thankfully, it's really hard to mess it up.
But I just thought that last years jerseys were pretty much perfect and these are a step back. Not bad, but worse than last year. Especially that V shape that Puma has introduced to most of their new designs is really unnecessary.
If I was the designer, I'd make it all-white with the stripe on the chest being the only thing red there. I'd give it a traditional collar and I'd also turn the number/name on the back back from red to black.
I think I will get last years shirt now for a reduced price. It really doesn't get much better than that.

Last year's was great. They should have just released it again with a press release reading along the lines of "These are badass, and you know your first one is covered in beer and mustard stains, so just buy it again and we won't put you through the torment of an inferior shirt for the coming season."
