Maybe we should try to get Marcel Schäfer. As a good friend of Gentner he knows it's best to get out and I rate him higher then Magnin or Boka.

Great call, but may I ask what makes you think Wolfsburg is going to sell him?

They have him under contract for three more years.

And if he wants to leave Wolfsburg, what makes you think he wouldn't go to Schalke with Magath to replace the severely injury-prone Christian Pander???

Wolfsburg have to sell him if he wants to leave. And given we only want to buy 1-2 players this summer we could pay them the money they'd want. Leftback is IMO the position we first should look for an upgrade and IMO Schäfer would be worth the investment. Schalke on the other hand don't have the money as they have to strenghten several positions, especially in attack. They also are out of Europe next session so I don't think Schäfer would go there. Just as I think getting Schäfer would be much less unlikely if we win our last 2 games.
Given that Boka doesn't seem to get much trust from Babbel it seems likely we will sell him after this session making good part of the money of a possible transfer of Schäfer.

Anyway this was just the first thought which crossed my mind when hearing that Veh might go to Wolfsburg.

Marcel Schaefer? I heard that he signed that contract mainly because of Magath, so if he wants to leave Wolfsburg, I think the most possible place is Schalke 04.
Schalke does not have money? Well just think about how they got Magath and at the moment they are chasing Heldt.

As for championship I find it very very hard, at first we should win the last 2 matches, which means getting six points from Cottbus(H) and Bayern(A!!!), then the other three teams above must make mistakes to lose some points. I just don't see it to happen.

Kicker is reporting here (http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/bundesliga/startseite/artikel/508761/) that former VfB Stuttgart coach Armin Veh will follow Felix Magath and coach VfL Wolfsburg next season.

I like Veh, but I don't know that he's the guy for this situation.

It'll be difficult for anyone to follow Magath's footsteps. At this point, I couldn't possibly say whether Veh succeeds at Wolfsburg or not, but I'm pretty sure that Wolfsburg won't be in the title race one year from now, no matter who's coaching them.

Maybe we should try to get Marcel Schäfer. As a good friend of Gentner he knows it's best to get out and I rate him higher then Magnin or Boka.

That's indeed a good call. But I'm also skeptical about Wolfsburg being willing so sell him.

I thought the same thing when I read about this.

Really I don't envy the next Wolfsburg coach no matter who he is... it will be almost impossible for anyone to match up to what they've done this season. So in that sense, no matter who VfL's next coach is, they'll almost definitely be regarded as a failure. Especially if they pull off the title this season.

What's more, Veh showed he can take underdogs to the top of the table. But he has yet to show that he can KEEP underdogs at the top of the table.

But whatever, we've got two killer game in front of us, no time right now to speculate on the goings on at our competitors.

You'd think so, indeed they SHOULD sell him. But, for whatever dumb reason, they prolonged his contract this winter. So it would be strange if they now sold him right after.

@title chances
Very hard. Of course if we beat Cottbus and beat Bayern we're in Champions League at least and 'only' nee Hertha and Wolfsburg to lose. It's not impossible. But it's also not what we should be setting our sights on. Our sights should rather now be set on winning the last two matches, as ********ing hard as the last one will be, and making champions league. 'Cause that's all we have control over.

No, they don't. He can't break his contract because he might want to leave. And again, what makes you think if he wants to leave and they do decide to sell him, he won't follow Magath to Schalke where he would almost certainly replace the oft-injured Christian Pander???

See, you're great at making your argument, but look at the other side. Schalke isn't as "broke" as the media tells you they are. Plus, they can raise money in a freakin' hurry by selling Kuranyi, Engelaar and Bordon.

HSV is known to be interested in Kuranyi to replace Olic and they will pay for him. Engelaar is wanted by PSV where Fred Rutten went and Beskitas is already known to be interested in Bordon.

You say that Schalke is out of Europe, so you doubt Schäfer would go there.

Wolfsburg is going to be in the freakin' Champions' League, WHAT MAKES YOU THINK HE WOULD WANT TO LEAVE THAT?!

Trust me, he isn't going to leave a team that will be in the CL next season for Stuttgart. You can be insulted by that if you like, but that's how it will go. I know you're all about the VfB, but dude, get real.

The only reason he'd go to Schalke is to join his mentor Magath.

Just as I think getting Schäfer would be much less unlikely if we win our last 2 games.

It's unlikely period.

Given that Boka doesn't seem to get much trust from Babbel it seems likely we will sell him after this session making good part of the money of a possible transfer of Schäfer.

That part I can believe. That you will find a sucker in England to give you guys money for Boka.

But you won't get Schäfer with that money.

Anyway this was just the first thought which crossed my mind when hearing that Veh might go to Wolfsburg.

And it was a very good player to think of, but I think your reasoning is based on what you want rather than what is likely.

Sorry dude. I only posted it here because of the Veh/VfB link.

Haha no problem :)

If Veh gets the job, I wish him the best there.

Gomez still doubtful for tomorrow... to be honest all I care is that he is fit and ready to go against Bayern on the final day of the season. Cacau and Marica did their job great away to Schalke, so I have faith in the two of them if Gomez is not at 100%

Ex Stuttgart players Hildebrand, Beck and Weis want to win for VFB,

http://www.bild.de/BILD/sport/fussball/bundesliga/vereine/hoffenheim/2009/05/16/hildebrand-weis-und-beck/wir-siegen-heute-fuer-den-vfb.html

Nah, better win for Wolfsburg.

So, here's the news on the team:
Khedira got his fifth yellow and is suspended. At least he didn't get it today. Gomez will only be on the bench, I'm pleased with that, I want him to be 100% for the Bayern game, an I believe Cacau and Marica can do the job here. But if it's 0-0 after 60-65 minutes, then I think we can expect Mario to make an appearance.

Here's the side:
-----------------Lehmann
Traesch----Boulahrouz--Delpierre------Magnin
------------Lanig-------Hitzlsperger
Hilbert--------------------------------Gebhart
-------------Marica------Cacau

No slip ups here guys, let's get the 3 points and give ourselves the finale we've been hoping for!

So far, so good. 1-0 through Hitzi, and it looks like we are proving dangerous enough up front even without Mario. Took a bit to get going, but they seem to be finding some rhythm.

Well, we're up 1-0. Don't feel safe yet though, we need to make another goal.

Wolfsburg cruising in Hannover unfortunately :( and Bayern and Hertha drawing.... not ideal so far, we'll see what the next 45 minutes bring.

Rainer24
16 May 2009, 11:07 AM
Well, nearly a disaster from Hitzlsperger, but now Cacau has put us up 2-0.

Hannover isn't put up the least bit of resistance. :(

Hannover totally totally suck. What an embarassment in front of their own fans.

But whatever, we've got the win now! :)

Gomez had to come in in the end, he ended up setting up the 2-0, Cacau with the finish.

So now we can switch to Sinsheim and Berlin, both Bayern and Hertha drawing atm. If Bayern draw or win makes no difference for us. But a draw by Hertha would allow us to overtake them. Let's hope Schalke hold out these last minutes.

Arbeitssieg today, just what we need to stay in the running!

So here's the possibilities for the last day:

IFFFFFF we beat Bayern and Bremen beat Wolfsburg, we're champion.

If we beat Bayern, and Wolfsburg draw or beat Bremen, we're second.

If draw Bayern, we are 3rd unless Hertha beats KSC.

If we lose to Bayern, we're 3rd unless Hertha beats KSC.

So.... looks like we're gonna be Karlsruhe fans on the last day

One things that's no longer hypothetical though:
WE ARE IN EUROPE NEXT SEASON!

Congrats boys!

Well, nothing is out of the question. I would LOVE to see Wolfsburg fall on their face on the final day of the season, but not if it would mean Bayern winning, of course. I could definitely see Bremen beating them, and us beating Bayern, which would be an unreal end. Who knows? We're already in this Europacup thing at the very least, so it has been a pretty satisfying season. Maybe it'll turn out even better yet!

Vfbstuttgartfan

I just find it funny that if we don't beat Bayern (still the most likely scenario...) we'll be rooting for Karlsruhe. :p

It definitely helps us that they beat Bremen today... they'll give it their all on that last game, and it really won't be an easy win for Hertha. And if Hertha don't win it, we've made third!!

Also, since a draw or a loss against Bayern makes no difference for us, the boys will go for the win. And that's a very good thing in my opinion.

Lots of speculating to be done in this next week, we'll see what happens. But even the worst case scenario is still a place in Europe. So this Rueckrunde has been a great success, regardless of what happens on the last day.

Wolfsburg are champions. Bremen's uefa cup final is on wednesday so theyll probably bend over on saturday.
