View Full Version : Given the choice, which would you choose?

Hi.

There are some discussions over an another part of the boards (http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=919801) regarding qualification for the Copa Sulamericana (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copa_Sudamericana) - CONMEBOL's broad equivalent to the UEFA Cup - in which the suggestion has emerged that should CONMEBOL send an invite to a non-Mexican team in CONCACAF, Montréal could get it!

(For that to happen, the Impact would have to be the highest-finishing non-Mexican team in this year's CCL which would not qualify for next year's Champions League... assuming CONMEBOL actually plan to use that criteria for this year's round of invitations.)

So, my question to you is this:

Say that the Impact do, indeed, end up being eligible to go to the South American tournament - but in order to do so, would have to end up not winning the Voyageurs Cup this summer (and thus missing out on another CCL run in the autumn).

Would the chance to play in the Sulamericana be worth more than a second run at the Champions League, or would you rather see the Impact remain in the CONCACAF competition?

(Personally, I think either would be fine - having the potential invite in their back pocket going into the NCC would be no bad thing, plus one could end up seeing 2 Canadian clubs competing in international club tournaments, if the 'Caps or TFC did win the Championship...)

It's Sudamericana.

Well if we won the Voyageur's Cup, could we then choose to go to Libertados and finally allow TFC to get into the CCL even though they didnt beat us. Hah!

They'll lose to the Whitecaps. TFC didn't beat them last year.

It's Sudamericana.

Not in Portuguese.

Libertadores would not be an option - but if the Impact win the Voyageurs' Cup, CONCACAF will oblige them to go to the CCL.

If they want to go to the CONMEBOL tourney, they would have to lose the Canadian Championship.

Oh well, if its one or the other. CCL all the way cause it means beating TFC. Unless we can lose to Vancouver. TFC fans are going all nuts that it was a fluke last season but now with Sebrango and DeRoux, they aren't getting anywhere. Even if they have DeRo. I mean we played them last time when we were at our worst in the season, straddling on the playoff line. Since then its been a race to 3rd place in the League, a jump up the CCL, and some great looking preseason matches. If TFC thinks they can just walk all over us, I want to make sure to upset them!

Plus, with the COPA, we'd be less likely to be able to travel to away games, unless it entails a week in Brasil. :P

Agreed, not to mention winning the CCL grants us a spot in the CWC (hopes)!

Obviously the best tournament would be preferable, which would be the CCL.
