It's that time of year again, when the EPL is winding down with about 11 games to go, Major League Soccer, the top soccer league in the United States is starting it's 14th season.

This year they have expanded up to 15 teams with the addition of the Seattle Sounders.

There are several MLS fantasy soccer games, but I'm partial to Mark Wheeler's invention, Major Fantasy League Soccer (MFLS) which was the original fantasy soccer league created for MLS.

MFLS is entering its 14th season as well. I'm including a link to a light, irreverent promotion for MFLS by another soccer fanatic. It's a fun read.

I also encourage all the Rocks managers to check out MFLS at mfls.com and read the rules and register a team.

For those interested in trying a drafted fantasy league, we're in the final stages of organizing the managers who want to play at Soccer Fantasy of America (SFA). If interested, hurry and register and post your interest at:

http://sfacommunity.proboards91.com/

This drafted league is starting its second and is still a masterpiece in progress. We've taken a lot of good ideas from this forum and incorporated them into SFA. Last year our scoring system was too complicated, so this year we are going to more closely resemble the scoring system used at MFLS.

Along about May, I'll start a thread for current Rocks managers to express their interest in playing next season. Besides the promotion/relegation reorganization of the leagues, typically we replace about 6-8 of our 32 managers in the 4 leagues. Next year might be less than that with the very active, new Dust League managers we have this year.

Sign up today in SFA if you want to play in a drafted league.

Sign up at MFLS.com before the season opens on March 19.

Well I think I may try that first non-drafted League this season, see if I can catch up with and learn the players so I can join your reigndeer games next season, maybe it will get those Eddie-buy-American picketeers off my lawn...

This will be my 4th season playing this year, and I must say that of all the fantasy football games I've played over the years, this one is the hardest...by far.

The scoring is unforgiving, the challenge from other players ranging from plain old difficult, to downright difficult. The many cups are a great attraction and the league is full of extremely active (and friendly) posters.

It's very much hands on though, and you certainly can't afford to neglect your team for any length of time.

If you're looking for a real challenge, this is the game/site.

I didn't find this post until yesterday which is unfortunate. I joined just barely before last night's deadline for week 3 so I was lucky enough to miss out on not only 2 weeks of points, but I also left Robbie Findley and his hat trick on my bench. :( Now that my whine is done, it looks like a fun game. It's good to have a different scoring method than the norm. Looking forward to the season.

This is nine years for me. It is remarkably challenging for a rather simple game. That is the draw. I also agree about the active managers. There are excellent forums. Even if you are late to join it is worth getting a year under your belt to learn the game.

The handling of transfer fees is an excellent wrinkle.

...and will kill your season if not handled with care!

No doubt I will have problems, but any variation from the garden variety fantasy rules is what makes a game stand out from the crowd. The only problem is that it is not well known ... or maybe the owner prefers it that way to keep it manageable.

True enough, if it weren't for Hal posting about it here a few seasons ago, I never would have heard of it.
Plus, it's in direct competition with the 'official' MLS game, which btw, is quite poor compared to this one.

When you miss the start of the season, can you see the fees as you pick a team?

Yes, that was no problem.

Yes, that was no problem.

Consider yourself luck then :)
If you join beforte gameweek 1, everybody is at '0'.

Frustrating week this week, my RSL players gave me great foundation to kick off on, but it went slightly pear shaped in Toronto

'Twas the only luck I encountered this week. No points for 2 weeks since I hadn't joined, Findley on the bench, Montero left at home for a "cold", and too late to join any cup competitions. That's ok though ... gives me a chance to learn the game and gives me an excuse for being incompetent. :o
