Because of or since the sponsorship? Just curious. I am going to buy one on my next car purchase.

Sure have:

A 2009 Jetta Sportwagen- from Springfield VW- bright red, to match my trademark hat (see avitar).

It's great to see the VW logo just above my "CMONDC" vanity plates.

While at the dealership, I did notice some DCU stuff on the desk of the salesman in the next cube over.

Two weeks later, when we got the inevitable follow-on marketing call from VW corporate, I gave the dealership all "9s" and "10s" and mentioned that, as a long-time DCU season-ticket holder, I was especially thrilled with our choice of new car.

I had to explain to the caller: "DC United . . . uhhh, the *soccer* team? . . . Major League Soccer? . . . U-ni-ted . . . yep . . . D-C . . . yeah, VW headquarters just moved to Herndon, Virginia- that's right near us (a lie) . . . VW is their corporate sponsor . . . yeah, it *IS* great, alright. Yep. You're welcome. Bye-bye."

[sigh] Oh well.

Now, if Frau Adler would just let me drive it once in a while . . . .

It's a tough time to be dropping cash on a new car. I'd love to be in the market, but my promotion didn't come through because of the economic situation. (Oh, sure they made a big production out of "quality of work product" and "professionalism" and "not showing up drunk", but I know it was really just that they don't want to raise payroll during a down period...)

If I were to buy a new car, the first two I'd be looking at are the Subaru WRX or the Mitsubishi Evo. What would be VW's equivalent?

Already own two. No room for another now.

Nice United stickers in the back windows on each side of the Passat, though.

Barra sticker on the Jetta.

Nope. The wife insisted on a new Mercedes Benz this time. But we have owned two BMW's and a VW Jetta Wolfsburg Edition in the past. So she definetely has a thing for German Engineering. Me? I'm a truck guy. Currently driving a Dodge company vehicle. There will be no VW in my future no matter what. But I DO respect the brand. And would highly recommend them to folks looking for a good passenger car.

Definition of a Scooby snack (http://www.netlingo.com/word/scooby-snacks.php).

Scooby Snacks [n.] Token compensation. "The gift certificates they gave us instead of a Christmas bonus were total scooby snacks."

Since the sponsorship? No, but I've already got two...and the little red GTI looks absolutely smashing with the big DCU car magnets, stickers and tag holders. Next step, DCU vanity plates! :)

I was way ahead of the curve over United on this one. I had a Jetta for a good chunk of my United tailgating history. I finally had to downgrade to a Toyota Corolla a couple of years ago, and then they went out and got VW sponsorship

Either the GTI (FWD) or the r32 (AWD). But the r32 is around $30,000 since they only made 5,000 of them and 5,000 back in 04.

I wish... I would love to own a blacked-out GTI.

No, but I dreamed about them last night. Seriously. I'm not sure exactly what was going on but it involved a volkswagen bug and me trying to figure out what year it was.

I'm a Subaru person so I can't see myself buying a VW any time soon.

No. I'm buying a BMW, though, so at least I am staying with a German company.

I already had one but I do like the DCU Plates on that thing. I'm getting a black Tiguan come summer.. No connection. I just like VW.

The VW sponsorship was tailor made for me. We had bought a VW Passat wagon the summer of 2006. It's black with "GO U9TED" vanity plates. Couldn't have planned it any better.

I don't buy anything because of a uniform sponsor. Though after the Chivas game last year, I went out and tried to pick up a bimbo.

Seriously, though - I will never buy a German car.

I have always been a Honda customer, but would consider VW the next time around because of the sponsorship. I look pretty close at Consumer Reports on decisions like this though, so as long as VW performs well there on long-term reliability, then I will definitely consider them. My big things when buying wheels are dependability and durability. Maintenance track records are very important (i.e. as long as I follow the maintenance schedule, it should go 10+ years w/o breaking down).
