Dejan Jakovic from Red Star Belgrade, 23, 6'2" Canadian international
well that's interesting
Does an actual signing merit it's own thread?
Interesting points to me...transfer fee was paid and he's viewed as a starter

I hope that he is a good player obviously. Beyond that though, I kinda like the youth movement. It would be nice to bring some younger players up through the system instead of relying on bringing in overpriced one year wonders who impact the salary cap while not really guaranteeing the team to be an iota better. Hopefully we can keep a core for a few years and make something happen from that.

Whew, I was hoping we'd sign a central defender before the season. Can't hurt that he is an international, either, even if he isn't on a stellar team it's good experience.

Here's the release (http://uabsports.cstv.com/sports/m-soccer/spec-rel/063008aaa.html) from when he signed overseas.
And here's his facebook profile pic. :p

Red Star produces some pretty mean defenders (literally) hope he brings the same kind of intensity that Vidic learned while playing for them. I want a CB feared, who'll go toe to toe with the Mexican teams...
Sadly from that picture it doesn't look the case
Good news, at least the back staff knew what we needed this time around.. Now for that speedy left winger...

What I like from reading is that he has played all over the field, which means he might have some foot skills which means when there is trouble, he might do more than just try and kick it as far and as hard as he can. He also scored six goals in his final season which may make him a nice threat on set pieces.

I'm going to be cautiously optimistic about this.
Which is a step forward given recent experiences with this team!

I certainly am not going to complain that we signed an international that was 23 instead of 33. So he only has one cap for Canada. We can only hope to have the headache of an in form current international on the squad.

that's even worse that someone practically born in Zagreb would associate with Red Star no matter his ethnicity, and says even his parents were born there :D Goff confused me cos he said Yugoslavia, I just assume that means Serbia heh :/ Guess they moved during war.
he seems big dude, hopefully he can sack Donovan in a few weeks :D

Why not? She doesn't mind it when Beckham comes over. :D But in those cases Beckham is probably "sacking" her, and not Donovan. Hmmmmm, that might be a nice sign to take with me to LA!

I ment the other sack, one that Donovan wouldn't like :D
