View Full Version : I found this in the CCL Regulations - I wish this was included in all competitions

"3.8 Upon entering the CCL teams agree to: .....
b. Participate with its first team in any and all games"

Sometimes I feel like I'm watching a junior team play and while it is nice to see up and coming young players in a competitive match, I just wish scheduling would allow "A" teams, or predominantly "A" teams, all of the time.

That's all fine and dandy but I don't see how you can enforce this. I mean, what qualifies as a "first team"?

This was brought up this week in UEFA:

No UEFA action against English pair (i.e. Aston Villa and Tottenham)

That rule is just not followed and not enforced. During group stages several FMF teams played unambigously identified second teams -- as did the Houston Dynamo at LA Firpo.

It's a shame that it isn't enforced, but it would be quite difficult to prove. Always having 'A' teams would help raise the profile of the competition.

Even though the rule is wonderful and would be great I don't think it will be enforced unless the region gets to the point where every team has rosters that are deep enough to play top quality players every match. CONCACAF may want the teams to play their best, but I don't think they would force them to play their players into the ground to do so.
