Hola mis hermanos carachos!

I come to you from the LA Galaxy forum. We have been hearing rumors of Osman Chavez joining our team for about a year. Over the last few weeks the rumors have hit an all time high. We are very excited about the possibility of a young talented player like Osman joining our team. The problem is that we don't know much about him. The following is a sumary of what I know:

I've seen him play a few times for Honduras during WCQ. He looks like a solid player. Although wikipedia lists him as a fullback, when I've seen him play he as played centerback. I haven't seen him make any horrible mistakes. (Although I didn't see him against Costa Rica in the last WCQ game.)

From what I've read in the press, they describe him as a physically strong player that is good in the air. I haven't been able to find an official height or weight for him.

From what I've seen here on the Central American boards I haven't found many negative comments about him. But many of youhave not put him in your proposed starting line-ups. I'm not familiar with the entire Honduran team but my guess is that since he is only 24 years old, some might want to see more experience in the back. Overall I think he is an up and commer and Honduras as high hopes for him.

Can anyone give me any more specific information? What are his strengths and weaknesses? What can we expect from him? Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!:)

Howie

howie,

I'll be brief (edit: hahaha, i now realize that i wasn't, i just typed away...),

1. He is a physical presence definitely. My guess is he is at least 6'1 maybe even 6'2 or 3, but not more. . This is my well educated guess. He is also stocky, not lanky at all

2. Also, he is definitely a Centerback. That is where he plays for both club and country (when he does play for the national team).

3. I'm not sure if you will find much neagative stuff, or positive for that matter, on these boards about him, since, I simply think many people have just not seen him play much. He used to play for Motagua and we saw him a few times in International competition, where he did quite well. However, he hasn't quite cracked the national team roster, and he has only been a recent callup, maybe within the past year or so (mostly under Colombian Reinaldo Rueda's reign these past two years, but again, mostly within the latter half of the last 12 months). I hope that made sense.

My personal take on him:

I was lucky to see him at the stadium from a close range (front seat) during the Honduras Canada game in Montreal in Sept. '08. That game he started b/c Maynor Figueroa, the regular Centerback starting partner alongside Victor "Muma" Bernardez, was suspended b/c of a quite questionable red-card vs Mexico at Azteca in Aug. 08. I was impressed by him during this game. I thought he did a good job of getting stuck-in and was great in the one on one. Also, gave good cover to his back line, and at times acted as sweeper, and made some timely, clean, tackles. Which brings me to the next point....

expect a good tackler on one v one situatations, someone who gets stuck-in and is ok in the air (I'd say this last part is his major weakness--but it's also characteristically, very unfortunately a weakness of most Honduran backs). I think that his ability to win balls, however, will win you and most Galaxy fans over soon enough. I think this is a good, maybe great, signing for you, you'll be pleased.

PS: he attracted MUCH interest from Mexican clubs during Concacaf Champions League last year, particularly when Motagua played Pachuca I believe. Rumors were thrown out there that Pachuca and other Mexican clubs were quite interested.
