i saw the film last night. it was historically accurate from a hockey perspective. the russian coach even looked like viktor tikhnonov. all the russian and swedish players were accurate, even the uniforms were accurate.the hockey scenes at the olympics were well done. except for two things. they could have made eruzione's goal v the ussr look more lke the actual play. it it etched in my mind. a low wrist shot, the russian defender trying to block the shot, myshkin screened as a result. and al michaels-ken dryden. i have seen a tape of the usa-ussr game about 10 times. they should have used the actual audio tape from the broadcast. al michaels sounded much more subdued than the actual broadcast. i remember the call very well on eruzione's goal. ken dryden said,"the us team now relying too much on jim craig, he's making too many big saves," then instantly michaels said "eruzione scores!", with dryden yelling "score!" almost simultaneously.that was not recrated properly, in my opinion.

Herb Brooks was very very well done, I really liked that character. Kurk Russel did a great job with him.

Good story in today's Star-Ledger about "the other side of the story". It's an interview with former Russian Olympian/NJ Devil's defenseman Sergei Starikov.

they wiped out the canada-nhl all stars at challenge cup 79 and at canada cup 81. the 80 team had all the old players from the early 70s like tretiak, kharlamov and maltsev plus some of the younger guys like fetisov and makarov and krutov who would be the core of the 80s soviet teams. i have watched the game several times on tape. we were badly outplayed, but jim craig played brilliantly and we also made the most of our opportunities. the tying goal described in the article was a very bad goal for the russkies to allow. i think we were out shot 37-14.

Ok, not great, but still good.
The thing that bothered me was that everyone in the crowd was wearing modern clothing. You didn't see any 1980's fashion or hair-cuts. Hell, one kid was wearing one of those awful trucker caps that are so popular these days. I know they couldn't have dressed up thousands of extras like that, but at least give a couple hundred a 1980 makeover.
