The top 2 teams qualify for the copa sudamericana. Right now we are on the verge of qualifying again

But if Pachuca win (or come runner-up in) the Clausura, and thus qualify for the 09-10 CCL, would they have to give up that Sulamericana slot?

I believe so

I see.

However, would that also be true for a Libertadores berth won via Interliga - would a team get the chance to play in both that and the CCL, or is there a scheduling clash (or CONCACAF writ) which would bar that from happening?

As long as we don't have anymore 5-0 scorelines going against us we can make it. This club needs to get back to playing well in international competitions, ever since winning Copa Sudamericana it's been downhill. Remember the Re-Copa against Internacional? As well as the two failures in the FIFA CWC's, not to mention the recent elimination at the hands of U. de Chile. :(

Hey let's not be all gloom and doom. Sure, we got our a$$es kicked in a game, big deal. Happens all the time. Despite the shelling, we are still Supeliders, and we're in good shape. Did you guys notice how well we played in the first half at times? I'd like us to be in the Sudamericana again, although I would definitely prefer another go at the Libertadores. Yes, the Sudamericana title was the last big taste of glory for Pachuca, but no other team in Mexico can make such a claim. They haters can all laugh at our marketing of the team as "El equipo de Mexico", but which of their teams has had recent international sucess that even comes close to what Pachuca has achieved?

This team could implode the rest of the tournament, and I would still be proud of them.

Well, to be fair to them, Cruz Azul being a shade away from winning the Libertadores back in '01 was no mean feat...

...and considering that those last two Champions' Cup wins let Pachuca go to the Club World Cup in the first place, would they not count for something?

(Indeed, given the expanded format, Pachuca would have a tougher time trying to win the CCL, should they end up qualifying for it.)

But if I may ask, would you prefer to see Pachuca in the CCL next year (and have a shot at a Club World Cup berth should they win) or in the Sulamericana?

Well said Profe!

I would give rep but the thing gave me the "must spread reputation" message.

I'll support Pachuca to the death but I must admit losses like last night get me down, I'll take consolation in the fact that no one, not Chivos, not América or any other can claim to have won continental titles in two different confederations.

But if I may ask, would you prefer to see Pachuca in the CCL next year (and have a shot at a Club World Cup berth should they win) or in the Sulamericana?

Honestly I personally would prefer to play Sudamericana but a potential return to the CWC and chance to finally set things right is also an appealing prospect.

I agree, Pachuca wouldn't necessarily have a rougher time winning the CCL in the expanded format. They'd certainly play better than Santos and UNAM, that's for sure. Actually, Pachuca is playing better than all four FMF teams in the CCL. It's a shame one bad season put the Tuzos out of CONCACAF competition this year.

Yes the tournament still exists but there's still one more matchday to go and right now we're tied with Toluca on points so we're not qualified just yet.

For those who don't know the FMF has withdrawn from all CONMEBOL competitions so this means no more Sudamericana for us unles this all get's resolved for the better.

If all stays as is, we'll have the one and only CONMEBOL club title in the Mexican league.

this is bullshit, the fmf president is a a**h****e, it should be our decision if we want to play, he should resign. the other teams wanted and easy pass and got it, id rather see pachuca go play 2 games there than just drop out, if we dont get to play cause of him i hope he crokes

Negative Austin, as much as I dislike the administrators at the F.M.F. they did the right thing in this instance.

Besides, this is probably a temporary situation, after all money talks.
