BTW, what's the over/under on people whining? It's one of those bets where you have to put down 600 dollars to win $1 :D
I hope this particular discussion is asking Kevin for more details instead of starting off with whining, but if he is short on details - as he often likes to be - then the whining will start, something has to fill the space :)

Too bad the stadium will be too far away from the BW Parkway. Otherwise I can see the ownership getting a license so we will have the "DC United Stadium & Slots Emporium" :D

I'm really getting fed up with how wonderful a lot of Northern Virginia based fans think they are. I also don't recall ever seeing Payne nor the team state that "the largest segment of" our "fan base derives from Northern Virginia."
Is there a link somewhere backing that up.

Dear Mr. Payne, as long as you're down at the Washingtion Post, can you walk over to David Nakamura's office and kick him in the balls?
:D

Payne Answered my question:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Rockville, Md.: Is the defense in place for the upcoming season? Any more needs or are you still looking around especially at center back?
Whats the plan for Kosic and is he signed?
Kevin Payne: We're still working on Kosic -- he has not yet signed an agreement. He is making progress in camp, but we have good competition in that position, which is what we want.
We have targeted one more defender to add. We have been working for some months on a younger player we believe has great potential, but that deal has hit some snags recently and we might have to go to plan B. We have several veteran players identified to help bring stability to our back line.
In the meantime, Namoff, Burch, McTavish and Janicki have all come into camp in great shape and seem intent on ensuring that no one takes their job!

I asked him:
Do you think there's any chance that the "the largest segment of your fan base" will quit whining about moving to Prince George's County?
:D

I'd pay money to see this become a reality.

I'd think they're doing this online chat thing, or whatever the kids call it, at the .com offices in NOVA not the dead tree offices in DC.

Being that Nakamura is Fenty's eunuch, this would be a useless exercise.
If anyone's wondering about the statement from Fenty that Kevin referenced:

FWIW, I know quite a few fans down here in PW county who don't think they'll be attending games as regularly once the team moves. I personally don't think the move is that big of a deal and of course it won't deter me at all, but frankly I think the team might be losing more single-game ticket sales and group sales to youth teams than some of you think. YMMV.

Arlington, Va.: Hi Kevin. It's been a rough week for your NOVA fan base.
Oh, you poor thing! Would a rather naive question to Kevin make you feel better?
Can you help the fans understand why the situation at RFK is so dire that the ownership would change its geographic focus just to get a new stadium sooner rather than later? Why is renting the old stadium so unprofitable? RFK didn't seem to stop the club from winning championships all the way up to 2004...
OK, good
Kevin Payne: No suites, no suitable hospitality areas, poor concourse circulation, substandard concession facilities, an antiquated infrastructure, etc. make the stadium non-viable long term. It's also way too big, and it would be extremely costly to make it work.

I wonder who the jackass is that asked that question.
It's been explained, ad naseum, why the team can't stay at RFK, and why the team has really no choice but to leave the District borders.
And as Payne stated earlier in the chat, many of the proposed locations are about 5 miles away from RFK.

Watch the video of the Monday press conference (I think they have it available on BtB). That's where it was said.

I'll have to wait until I get home, since the "powers that be" decided to block BehindTheBadge here at work.
Regardless, a lot of the NoVA fans really need to get over themselves.

IIRC Lowecifer's recap has it.
