A friend of mine burned a CD of Godspeed You Black Emperor for me since I had never heard them and told him how much I like Tortoise and The Sea & Cake. Well, the thing has really grown on me. It's great. Now I want to hear more of their stuff.
Here's the problem: I don't know what CD I have. My friend doesn't even know the name of it. I don't want to buy the same one so I was hoping one of you hipsters would know which album I have and possibly suggest another album of theirs that is as good as this one.
The one I have is just five tracks long. The first track starts with a deep, scratchy voice talking about "The cars on fire" and "We are trapped in the belly of the machine". The second track starts with what sounds like a street scene in a foreign country and a bellowing bagpipe.
Does anyone know what I have and what I should get?
Thanks for the help,
Murf

These guys rule.
I'm not even sure myself. I'll listen tonight and post the results tomorrow.

I believe that's the one with the unpronouncable cd title, "xxxf#a#00xxx" or thereabouts.
You should also pick up "lift your skinny fists like antennas to heaven". I played the title track for that cd to my significant and her response was "that's the sound I want to hear when I stroll through the gates of heaven".
she's so dramatic.

I believe that's correct. I only have "Lift..." and it doesn't start out like the one you have.

I heard a 33 Minute Live track of theirs, but got bored with it after 12. The Riff sounds like the U2 track 'Acrobat' from 'Achtung Baby'. The track is called 'Mother*#*#*#*#*#*#er Redeemer' and is on their 2002 album called 'Yanxui UXO', or something like that.

They also did the score/sndkt for the UK release of 28 Days Later, but their music is not in the American release because of their alledged anti-consumeriism ethos(little naive on their part-is UK completly removed from capitalist society?LOL) I have all their stuff (about 12 GB worth) for share on Winmx, pm me and i will give you my screenname on that P2P service.

I will confirm that you have F#A#. My brother is a huge Godspeed fan, and his favorite is Lift Your Skinny Fists. The first song, Storm, is simply a masterpiece. I can't imagine there's a human being alive that would not be moved by that song.

Thanks for all of the help, guys. I called my local indie store to order "Lift Your Tiny Fists..." this weekend. The guy said they usually stock it because it is so good but it was currently out-of-stock. They are ordering it Monday though and I should have it by the end of the week.
Thanks again,

Unfortunately, I don't have a turntable anymore. And I'm not going to invest in a new one because I have two kids under 3 which doesn't lend itself to having nice but fragile things like vinyl/turntables. Hell, my 2-year-old son already uses one of my Sonic Youth CDs to trace circles with his markers. Imagine what he'd do with a nice slab of vinyl.

You get all the cool goodies with their CDs. I got Yanqui on CD and it has all the cool free crap in it.

I know some super cute indie girls that would hear that and all, simultaneously, let out a big "awwwwww!!!!".

I was on the verge of tears the first time I heard it. Seriously.
