I've yet to see a Mönchengladbach game with bad atmosphere, I think their fans are the best and loudest in the league!

I hope for these semifinals:

Lübeck - Bremen

Gladbach - Bayern

Final :

Gladbach - Lübeck

No, that would be awful for Germany. Yesterday I was only rooting for Gladbach as otherwise it would have been very probable that a 2.Bundesliga club makes the UEFA Cup - awful for the 5 year ranking as they only got a chance to survive the first round at best (okay, you might say that the Bundesliga clubs don't make it any further, but at least they got the theoretical chance ;)). Because of that I was pretty shocked when short before the end both, Duisburg and Fürth, were leading as only Bayern would have remained as Bundesliga club - and they would have made the way for the runners up in the final as they'll enter the Champions League.

So... Bremen and Bayern in the final wouldn't be too bad as in this case the 6th ranked Bundesliga club would qualify for the UEFA Cup. Gladbach is no great solution as for me they are a hot relegation candidate. But of course I'll root against Bayern in every game, so before Lübeck and Aachen make the final, it should be Gladbach. Semifinals Bremen vs Lübeck and Aachen vs Gladbach...

Please add a [R] to the topic if you post results or standings (;-) because some members of this board tape matches and try to avoid getting to know the result. Also don't create topics like "Bayern busted crappy Han(n)over" or similar ones that indicates what the result might be.

Cheers, jonam

Do we know what the potential semifinal matchups will be, or will they be drawn after the Bayern/Aachen game?

The 1/2 final draw will be after the match today or saturday/sunday...

We don't know the matchups. I guess they will be drawn this weekend, but I don't know for sure. As Schalke Supporter said, with Bayern's luck you can bet your money on a thrilling semifinal Bayern vs Lübeck in front of 3.000 fans in the Olympic Stadium ;)

Btw. did it arrive?

Well, here's one self-interested vote for a Gladbach/Luebeck semifinal, with the game played at Gladbach as the Pokal says goodbye to the Bokelberg.

Here are two questions for you:

Assume a Gladbach versus Bayern/Werder final. Assume Gladbach loses, and assume the winner has qualified for the CL or the UEFA cup by virtue of their league finish. Does Gladbach get the UEFA cup spot that goes to the Pokal "winner"? That's how it's been in years past, IIRC.

Assume a Bayern versus Werder final, and further assume that both teams qualify for the CL or UEFA. Does Gladbach (Luebeck) get the UEFA cup spot that goes to the Pokal "winner"? If so, how do you choose between the two semifinal losers (Gladbach and Luebeck)?

Olaf, see your PM.

Q1: definitely if the winner is in the Champions League. I'm not 100% sure if the winner just is in the UEFA Cup, but I think that also in this case the runners up make the UEFA cup.

Q2: no, in this case the 6th of the Bundesliga qualifies for the UEFA Cup.

Aachen vs Bayern is 1-1 meanwhile. Bayern scored with the only chance they had so far, absolutely underserved as Aachen clearly is the better team.

I think that in this case the 6th of the Bundesliga would qualify instead of the runners-up. At least this was the case in other European countries (e.g. in Iceland last season. Fylkir, who were runners-up had beaten Fram in the final, but instead of Fram third placed Grindavik went to the UEFA cup. And don't ask why i know this).

Aachen vs Bayern 2-1. Oddly, when switching the channels this afternoon, I stopped at DSF for a while and heard the stats guy say that Aachen doesn't even have to try their luck with counter attacks and headers as Bayern doesn't allow those goals. I immediately had to think of Erik Meijer, who wins almost every header - and who scored the game winner? Erik Meijer with a header...

The fix is in:) How convenient that Bremen and Luebeck are drawn together and Aachen and Gladbach are drawn together. But if I was the DFB, I would have done the same thing. I can't complain too much about Gladbach not getting homefield advantage (I assume these games are not played at neutral sites), since they've played at home in at least their last three games (Dortmund, Stuttgart and Duisburg) at home, but it would have been nice if Gladbach could have hosted the SF--Aachen is a good team and I suspect there is not much of a difference between the two teams. Luebeck should feel suitably aggrieved--playing away at Hoffenheim and now forced to play away at Bremen. Praying for a Bremen/Gladbach final (on the theory that even if Gladbach were to lose to Bremen, they will play in the UEFA Cup, whereas if the lose to Luebeck, they get nothing).

Yep. As Bremen won't drop to 6th place the loser of the final will play UEFA Cup next season. Would be great for Gladbach to play in their new stadium on international level. If they handle things right they someday might be a major Bundesliga power once again.
