Anyone else watch it?

Right now, the green team is my fave.

Boston Rob has some nice abs.

Richard (of course) was the first to get naked.

Rupert reminds me of the one guy from Harry Potter.

Hatch is naked in under 10 minutes and doesn't feel like starting a fire. What an effing tool! He's definitely gone the first time his tribe loses.
As far as the so called hook up:
- Rob and Amber based on Rob's comments "she beautiful, I trust her already"

My early pick for a winner:
I'm going with either Colby or Rupert

It should be interesting when the tribes merge. Did you see Colbys face when he spotted Jerri? :)

I'm rooting for Rudy, but after the first episode and the teaser for the next, I doubt he's going very far.

Rupert has the advantage where not a lot of people know him.

I was glad Tina got voted out, I never really liked her.

Which tribe will "make" fire first?

Quite excellent.

Some things I've read on spoiler sites (I put the text in white, I realize you can partially see it, skip this post or PM me with a better way to do it if you don't like spoilers):

--None of the past champions make it to the final four. Not exactly a shock, seeing as how they were targeted from the beginning in Tina's tribe.

--Jenna from the Amazon (champion, posed in Playboy, lusted after by weasel Rob) had to leave early due to a death/sickness in the family

--Bahston Rob makes it to the Final Four with Amber, Rupert and Jerri (but it's anybody's guess how accurate this is)

--Ethan is gone pretty early

--Shi Ann makes the jury

I have to say that I LOVED the first ep. This is gonna be a great season.

He's a manipulative and lazy ass.

I guess last nights vote should not have been that surprising. I will say this for 76 Rudy looks great.

Interesting episode and nice to see old challenges from previous survivors brought back. Ethan staying on the boat and swamping it really caused them problems.

How do you people like this crap... honestly?

I ask myself the same question every week I watch. I really can't explain why I like it, I guess I'm one of those suckers for "reality" tv.

I was sad to see Rudy lose so soon, but I agree he had to go.

Compared to most of crap fictional shows on TV, Survivor is pretty high quality. It also is closer to one very long and complicated game show than it is to just "reality" for the sake of it (like Big Brother or Real World).

The producers also have a very good sense of narrative structure.

Agreed. Also the challenges have real value and meaning. You can't get more real in a game than getting voted off or going without food.

The only other reality based gameshow that comes close and in some instances exceeds Survivor is the Amazing Race.

Well, we saw a first on Survivor. Jenna M. having to leave because of her fears her mom would die while she was playing the game (unfortunatly, the mom died just 8 days later). A hard decision for her and a very moving moment.

Overshadowing it was the shark attack on Richard. Boy, was I rooting for the shark.

I was hoping that shark was going to make Richard pay the price for engaging in hand-to-hand combat with a shark in the nude.

Both of these events are perfect examples of what makes Survivor such great television. Mock the "reality" label all you want, but Richard was in "real" pain when he had the shark attached to his arm (biting back was cheesy showmanship, however), and the tears from the whole cast were very "real" when Jenna broke down at the end. Yeah, there's the legitimate "Why'd you come, dumbass?" question, but she clearly admitted she made a bad call.

Sadly, leaving at that point turned out to be very much the right call.

This episode was reminiscent of the one a few seasons back when Mike fell in the fire and got medically DQ'd from the game.

Richard's arrogance make me like him more every day.

The circumstance regarding Jenna leaving and her mom dying 8 days later makes me wonder if she was getting some information from the camera, or really was intuition. I know Jeff asked if she knew and she said she just felt it, but it makes me wonder

Love him or Hate him, but you gotta admit, Richard is really good at this game. If he hadn't previously won he'd be the odds on favorite to win this one in my book.

I have to agree with you, actually I like the fact he said something about Rudy losing..

first, i'm sorry jenna's mom died.

BUT, my god woman, you knew she had cancer before you left! why'd you even go! you just wasted a spot on the greatest survivor ever. We could've had Johnny Fairplay and any other Survivor in there.
She was stupid for even being out there in the first place. what a waste.
