All I'm hearing leading up to this game is how nicer the weather is in Salt Lake City, Seattle, and so on.
Then the game starts.
Was there any doubt who was the home team from the opening whistle?
No.
The crowd was large and in charge, and the US players showed their appreciation by throwing their jersey's into the stands.
The Weather?!? Seriously, people are dissing Columbus because of the weather?
Yo, news flash: they can't control the weather. What they CAN control, however, is the level that US fans represent at a crucial CONCACAF qualifier.
I'll put it like this: I can't think of any reason why any WC qualifier against Mexico should be held in any other city until further notice.
2-0, amigo. Where?
Columbus.

Aside from the insanely loud Zinha chant that went up at one point...
Great crowd.

I thought the crowd was slightly weak, it was OK, I guess. Then again I did watch Japan vs Australia and a Copa Libertadores match in Argentina right before this game.
Ooooooh....Nippon! Niiiipppo-oooon! Niiiippppoooo-ooon! Nippp-ooooon!

Columbus will get love, in my book. I think we need to keep this game at CCS. the mental advantage we've achieved (with the help of the CCSans) has been enormous to our success in the HEX.
that being said ... on TV (on my TV), that looked to be the worst atmosphere of the three US/MEX Hex games. i understand that this one had two big strikes against it: (1) it wasn't a very good game. technically it was poor and the 90 minutes did not have a consistent flow. the 2nd half especially, was awful to watch. (2) the weather. that's not anyone's fault obviously. neither thing is. not helping things, were there fact that there was a smattering of green-clad Mexies right at midfield, between rows like 1-15 or so. that made it look bad on TV as well.
maybe i'm remembering things wrong, but i felt like the atmospheres were non-stop parties/freak shows in the 01 and 05 games. this one looked and sounded to me like just another game. a big game nonetheless, but nothing overly special. i mean, even the 2001 one -- wasn't that one played in like 25 degree temperatures? i seem to recall that atmosphere being insane (on TV).
there it is. just a one guy who watched it on TV's thoughts. i definitely think this game stays at Columbus. it is so far inside the Tri's heads .. we have to keep doing it.

Did anyone at the game on the North End notice the Mexican who tore his shirt off?? He was halfway up behind the corner flag where Beasley served inteh Corner Kick for goal one.
That was odd

The TV was lying to you. I was there for the last USA-Mexico game in Columbus and last night blew 2005 out of the water, IMO.
It was just pure insanity, the weather made it twice as bizarre. The USA fans were a lot more intense this go around. Seemed like it was an overwhelmingly college aged/male crowd so that helped.

Pedro Gomez said he talked to Sven pregame, and Sven compared the place to Albania.

"Mirė se vini nė ferr!"
(Albanian for "Welcome to Hell!"... I used Google Translate, so it might be a bit off.) ;)
Seriously, though, that's a huge compliment... By the way, the flags -- especially the 13-star one -- looked awesome flying in the wind like that.
I will second the fact that the TV didn't seem to pick up the sound of the U.S. fans as well as past U.S. - Mexico matches at Columbus, but, again, I wasn't there. And I give serious props to anyone who braved that weather to support the USMNT. You are all heroes.

I gave some love in another thread, but here is some more...
You guy's were awesome. The visual (red, flags, standing) and audio (rocking!) was very good. Field looked great. Especially in HD.
Very impressed.

What got to me was the national anthem. At these other sporting events it's like the spectator can't be bothered to participate. Seeing the big USA flags waving and the handheld flags all in a row with everyone singing loudly...great stuff.
Plus we didn't have to hear some teen pop star sing, "Oooooohhooooooohhhhhhh saaaaaaayyyyyyy............can yooooooooouuuu sssssssseeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaahhhhhh-mmmm-mmm-mmmmmmmmm..."
