this guy will tear it up the Premiership, just give him a short acclimatation period and BOOM!

He's got skill and pace but he looks lightweight and a bit of a fairy. He'll never amount to anything more than the odd flash of good play, the Premiership is tougher for a player like that than La Liga.

Eh he he ... not that your club affiliation is clouding your judgement at all, right? ;)
FWIW, the record of Spanish players in the English game is less than impressive. Reyes will have to buck a trend if he is to be a lasting success here.
Having said that, there is no doubt that Reyes is a spectacular player. Crucially, he is a tactically astute player. I've already seen people compare him to C Ronaldo as though Reyes is all youthful promise and exhuberant, unfocused talent. He's not. He knows what he's doing. His little cameo yesterday showed he has what it takes to slot in with the likes of Henry and Pires and the other quick-thinking, ball-carrying team players Wenger has assembled.
Remember - everyone thought Pires was a lightweight French no-hoper when he arrived, but you don't get much of that out of people these days, do you?
I for one am quietly unsettled by his arrival at Arsenal. It significantly strengthens them and is by some measure the best buy they could have made. Wenger has blown his entire summer budget and he's not someone to do that unless he is pretty certain it will work out.

True, true.
Certainly if this was a signing made by a manager with a less impressive transfer record than Wenger, it would be something to be a bit sceptical about.
But Wenger does know his stuff and Reyes is proven to be effective at the highest level already, although for Pires and Henry there is Wiltord and Jeffers.

From the little I've seen of Reyes on Sky's Spanish coverage, he looks an absolutely class act.

Yes, every manager makes mistakes. But Reyes is not Wiltord. And he's certainly not Juggy Jeffers. Besides, Wiltord's case is generally exaggerated. He has scored some pretty vital goals in his time at Arsenal. He was overpriced at £13m, but then that was the market at the time. He's hardly been a crashing failure, he's just failed to keep Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp out of the starting 11.

is it because most of the spanish players come to england later in their careers ? i can only think of mendieta and curly hair from bolton who are doing alright but certainly not as well as they couldve if they were in their prime... has there ever been any other spanish player like reyes who came here as a young, upcoming player?

Yep, I just have to look across the road and I see a whole flock of them at Highbury, fans and the players alike.

You're referencing the perm of Ivan Campo, eh?
I can't think of a similar case to Reyes. The closest I can come up with is Albert Ferrer, who was still good when he left Barca. He's not comparable to Reyes, however.
I sort of want the gypsy king to do well - it might convince Joaquin to play at the Bridge next year. I want to see a revival of the Seville derby in London. :p

was just watching The Premiership on Monday and they were doing a stats game: to name the 13 spaniards who have played in the premiership. reyes is the 13th and you're right, no one really stood out apart from the current bunch and ferrer.

true Javi Moreno has had no impact in Bolton, the same happened to Salva Ballesta last season in the same team.

Exactly. As an Arsenal fan I'm not exactly crazy about Wiltord either but he hasn't been total crap. During the double winning season, he scored several very big goals....the most memorable one being at Old Trafford to sew up the league title. In hindsight, he was a bit over-priced...especially now since it looks like he'll leave on a free at the end of the season. (no, I don't expect any sympathy from Spurs fans on that)
As for Reyes, I'm optimistic but only time will tell.

I take it all back, Reyes is top class, easily Middlesborough's best player tonight and if he keeps this up I'll be putting him in my Premiership dream team before the end of the season.

This is serious stuff, coming from a Smoggie! Boro Lad can compare him with Robbie Mustoe and Mikkel (sp?) Beck - the one with the Alice band.
But as for the worst in Premiership history - I propose Elena Marcelino, who was an up and coming Spanish international when signed by Newcastle from Mallorca.
He had a yellow streak a yard wide down his back - you could clearly see the fear in his eyes when he started playing in England.
Then he took a year off with a sore finger!
