Alan Shearer, I'd say because of his prolific goalscoring record and his two player of the year awards.

How did Cole even make this list?

My vote's for Shearer with Ryan Giggs a close second.

Plus, he said Premiership. I don't think George Best played in the English topflight after the name switch and reorganization, but I could be mistaken.

This is also the Premiership...
I think Shearer is obvious from that list..
Bergkamp, by the way, was my very favorite player (and still is one of them)... I love his 'technicality'... I think he could have been higher on that list if things had gone better for him....

EDIT: Hate that when a post slides in the middle, and knocks your's out of context...:D

Got to be Shearer.

For the entire history, it's Shearer by a landslide. Just consistently consistent. Too many players on this list who've had two or three good years, but nothing that comes close to Alan.

If we are talking consistency then it has to be Giggs. He has won 8 out of the 11 Premiership titles so far and looks well placed to add a record 9th English title. To not have him in the poll is a disgrace. There has barely been a season where he has not been either the best or second best in his position, he has epitomised Manchester United's consistent dominance of the English game since the Premiership's inception.

Roy Keane has been the central player of the best team by quite a distance. He has contributed to goalscoring, knocked a fair number in himself, has been absolutely wordclass since returning from that huge injury a few years back and has been the best leader the league has ever seen (better than Shearer or Adams)... it is VERY tight between himself and Shearer for best over the last 11 1/2 EPL years, but my bias means I'll give Keano the nod.

However, if it is for who was the best player ever - as in who was the best whole they were there (and not making length of stay a factor), Cantona is the hands down winner. Anybody saying differently couldn't have been a fan from 1992-1998.

I`ve just voted for Cantona. He was the kind of player the Premier league was invented for. Part old fashion centre-forward, part continental flair, part thug, everything you want in a footballer in England.

Keane is the best. His leadership in the team make him important for every team

I voted for Henry.

If this was best player in English football history it would diffently be Geoge Best. Best player of all time.

Teddy Sherringham should be on that list.

Says a Man Utd fan from Northern Ireland, I think you might be slightly biased.

I voted for Zola on the basis of sheer talent and the fact that he was a delight to watch and a genuine competitor at all times. He was a total asset to the Premiership throughout his time here.

Having said that, it all depends on what frame of reference you use when you define 'best'. Shearer has been the best goalscorer in Premier League history and was instrumental in winning Blackburn their title in that role. But overall his effect on the league has been more personal than collective. In that context, Keane has to be the best player. Likewise, Cantona had a larger impact on Manchester United at the time of his arrival than any other player has had in a comparable situation. So if that is the basis for assessing who was 'best' then it's got to be him.

And tell me Andy Cole is on that list for a joke ...

Cantona then Shearer. Cantona would do anything he wanted on the pitch....and pretty much anything with the ball too.

I agree with him though. :D

I voted for Cantona. There are plenty of reasons why he is the best, IMO. However; the critieria hasn't been laid out.... "best player" is open to so many interpretations....

You think that Best is the best player of all time?
