rule: No more than 4 lines, this isn't to read a song. What lyrics stick out for you?
The lines that say it all for me are from 'No Surrender' from Bruce Springsteen.
Well we busted out of class
Had to get away from the fools
We learned more from a three dollar record
Than we ever learned in school.

And it chars my heart to always hear you calling
Calling for the good old days
Cos there were no good old days
These are the good old days
~ The Libertines, The Good Old Days
I see that there is evil
And I know that there is good
And the in-betweens I never understood

Your love is so incredible
Your body so edible
You give me an overdose of love
A little is enough
~ Pete Townshend, A Little is Enough
There once was a note, pure and easy
Playing so free, like a breathe rippling by
The note is eternal, I hear it, it sees me
Forever we blend as forever we die
~ Pete Townshend, Pure & Easy
When my fist clenches, crack it open
Before I use it and lose my cool
When I smile, tell me some bad news
Before I laugh and act like a fool

I'm all lost in the supermarket
I can no longer shop happily
I came in for a special offer
A guaranteed personality
Lost In The Supermarket - The Clash
(more than 4 lines, but I can't edit Shane MacGowan)
The last time I saw you was down at the Greeks
There was whiskey on Sunday and tears on our cheeks
You sang me a song as pure as the breeze
Blowing up the road to Glenaveigh
I sat for a while at the cross at Finnoe
Where young lovers would meet when the flowers were in bloom
Heard the men coming home from the fair at Shinrone
Their hearts in Tipperary wherever they go
Broad Majestic Shannon - The Pogues
And the lyrics that basically sum up my early 20s:
you're out all night
chasin' girlies
you're late to work
and you go home earlies

it's hiding the quiet superstitions in my head
don't believe me when i say i got it down
rolling stones - tumblin' dice
women think i'm tasty
they're always tryin' to waste me
and make me burn the candle right down...
baby you gotta roll me and call me the tumblin' dice
sheryl crow - hard to make a stand
we got loud guitars and big suspicions
great big guns and small ambitions,
and we still argue over who is God
and i say 'hey there miscreation we all need a revelation'
james taylor - up on the roof
right smack dab in the middle of town
i found a paradise that’s troubleproof
and if this old world starts a getting you down
there’s room enough for two up on the roof
incubus - blood on the ground
i don't wanna talk to you anymore
i'm afraid of what i might say
i bit my tongue every time you come around
'coz blood in my mouth beats blood on the ground
stevie wonder - as

Pour me all your sorrows
And I'll drink till you are dry
I'll love you in the mornin'

"Then we raised a glass to JFK
And a dozen more besides
When I got back to my empty room
I suppose I must have cried"
- The Pogues
"And if I should die in a car wreck
May I have Van Morrison on my tape deck"
-Poi Dog Pondering
"In a little hilltop village, they gambled for my clothes
I bargained for salvation an' they gave me a lethal dose.
I offered up my innocence and got repaid with scorn.
"Come in," she said, "I'll give you shelter from the storm."

I love that stanza.
Words to memorize words hypnotize
Words make my mouth exercise

And what can I tell you, my brother, my killer
What can I possibly say
I guess that I miss you, I guess I forgive you
I'm glad you stood in my way
If you ever come by here for Jane or for me
While your enemy's sleeping and his woman is free.
I .. thank .. you
For the trouble you took .. from .. her eyes
I thought it was there .. for good
So I never tried.
Leonard Cohen Famous Blue Raincoat
The last I saw of Oklahoma
A gas station fading in the dust
Goodbye my father, I thought, I'm carrying the light
The light of my Comanche
Make sure the dog remembers me
I dream the sand beneath your feet
I hold the light
IT's just that mean old Texas Sun
It make me dizzy, dizzy, dizzy in my head.
Throwing Muses Dizzy a great, great forgotten song.
Take a walk in the park
Take a valium pill
Take the letter you got
from the memory girl
But it takes more than this
To make sense of the day
And it takes more than milk
To get rid of the taste.
Belle and Sebastian Sleep This Clock Around
I know it's just half
of this story -- I've been meaning to ask
Just what would it take to coax you to laugh.
Grant Lee Buffalo Arousing Thunder
I could do this all day.

When I was just a baby, my mama told me, "Son,
Always be a good boy; don't ever play with guns."
But I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die.
When I hear that whistle blowin' I hang my head and cry.

On a sad note, Bill Kirchen a local musical hero and guitar god left town for San Antonio. Bill played with the Commander before going solo. He played every thursday night at the Sunset Grille in Annandale Va for the amazing price of two dollars cover charge. I must have seen him a hundred times over the last fifteen years he played there with his band "Too Much Fun". An amazing musician. If you live in the San Antonio area and you hear of a guy named Bill Kirchen playing a gig somewhere, definately catch it. You won't be dissapointed.
