Hi lads,

on Thursday was the first public training session. With 30°C best weather for a party as 21,000 people were attending to cheer up Podolski and our team for the new season.
Just a comparison. At Schalke's first training sessin there were 4000 people attending ^^

Only few photos from me, my camera battery died.

New rumors and info from the last 7 days:

-Our striker Milivoje Novakovic will be missing the first few games of the new season due to his groin surgery during last season's final games.
-Former FC Cologne Keeper Alexander Bade is back from Bielefeld to become our new Goalkeeper Trainer.

Latest rumors are that we are after brasilian winger Evaldo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evaldo) from Sporting Braga.

As well as that we have interest in Real Madrid talent Christopher Schorch (former Herta BSC youth player) and most interestingly we have contact to Bosnian National Semir Stilic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semir_Stilic), a talented creatived midfielder, currently under contract with polish outfit Lech Poznań.

And now Im very anxious to watch USA-Brasil in Confed Cup final ^^
Good luck lads ;)

Kickers Emden was a 3rd league club but had to go down to 5th league due to DFL violations or something like that ^^
Now all their players leave the club so it should be not too difficult to overcome them.
The exact date is yet to be determined but will be between: 07/31/09 and 08/03/09.

For your interest Emden is in the north of Germany at the sea, about 4 hours drive from here.

Not quite correct. You're right about their being in the 3. Liga this past season and yes, they were relegated, but Emden didn't have to go down to the fifth division due to any violations. They volunteered to be demoted to the fifth division because of financial difficulties.

Stranger things have happened! LOL!! ;)

The exact date is yet to be determined but will be between: 07/31/09 and 08/03/09.

Thanks for that information. For some reason, I was thinking all the matches would be played from 31 July-2 August.

I hope they have the ARD/ZDF match on the 3rd.

Thanks again!!!

I think Emden had planned to extend their stadium because it was a regulation of the DFL for the 3rd league....you are right they have no money therefore they decided to step back before they get penalized.

I would bet ARD/ZDF will be showing the boring Bayern match ^^
Last year all matches of the first round could be seen on Premiere....i hope they will do that again.

They are.

But "Premiere" becomes "Sky Deutschland" on July 4th. :)

According to this Kicker.de article (http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/dfbpokal/startseite/artikel/510828/), Kickers Emden would like to switch the Cup match to the Rhein-Energie Stadion in Köln.

However, switching home field in the German Cup is not allowed. Usually, if Emden deems their stadium as unsuitable for the match or figures they can fit a bigger crowd elsewhere, they would have to pick a venue in their region.

The article names Meppen and Bremen as options.

The article states a possible ulterior motive for Emden wanting to play the match at Köln.

This match will be Lukas Podolski's first competitive match back as a member of 1. FC Köln. It is thought this match would draw at least 30,000 people and after the DFB takes its 20% cut of the gate, the rest is split between the two clubs.

I'm guessing if Emden plays in Meppen or Bremen, they would have throw the club or stadium authority part of their cut.

The article says Emden's boss, Rainer Bruns, is speaking with both 1. FC Köln and the DFB about this plans.

Bruns says of the rule disallowing switching of home field advantage (which of course means the bigger club assuming the home team responsibilities too); "If the DFB really wants to help a small club, they will close their eyes on this one."

What do you guys think? Should the DFB make an exception in this case?

I say why not? The big teams are probably going to win anyhow, so if the smaller club wants to switch stadiums to gain a monetary advantage, why not let them???

Of course, the bigger club would have to approve too, but which of them wouldn't??

I say move the game to Cologne and let Emden have a nice lump of cash.

Yeah, I agree. If Emden want this, why not? I just wonder whether there might be a difference of opinion between their management and their fans (?).

Any true fan of the club would want this too. Sure, it puts the burden on them if they want to see the match live, but if they want their club to survive financially, this would be the best thing for it.

The first few matches are pretty tough! That's not an easy start to the season.

You are right.

However, it does mean that you'll have your "less difficult" matches toward the end of the season.

That's a pretty good advantage too.........

Kevin McKenna has been an absolute stud for Canada's defence in the Gold Cup (CONCACAF equivalent of the Euro's). We finished our group undefeated, wins over Jamaica, El Salvador and a draw against Costa Rica with Kevin marshalling the back four.
On to Saturday's quarter final against Honduras.
