Hallo Freunde!
The season is over and we are all happy we made it. The game vs Bochum was very emotional (even if I was not there). Matthias Scherz will retire after this season as an active player. Having served 10 years with the Club he has many sympathies with the fans.
287 games, 71 goals
He will stay with the Club an counsel youth players.

Tomorrow DFB Cup Final is taking place in Berlin.
Leverkusen vs. Bremen
For both it is important to win it since they are not qualified for Europe League (Uefa Cup) in the Bundesliga. I can't remember when we had this situation the last time. Usually the champions are at least in the Cup Final as participants and then the second could walk through. This time it is more interesting.
Yesterday Nürnberg won the first leg of the relegation 3-0 at Cottbus and are more or less promoted to 1.Bundesliga ^^

Kevin McKenna anchors the back line for Canada as they defeat Cyprus 1-0 on Saturday with a very young team.

Express says that Daum is gone to Fenerbahce. I haven't seen it anywhere else but I am shocked. If true, I hope it was not a surprise to FC so that they could plan their off season appropriately. I can't blame him for leaving but not in this way.

It is true and I agree with what you say about his leaving. It should not have been this way.
Any idea on who might be his successor? Maybe Haessler??

I am absolutely shocked. I don`t think anyone was prepared for this.:(
Daum had a special status in Cologne. Even when things got tough many fans stood behind him. He was imo our best chance to establish ourselves in the first division permanently. It is a shame that he quits now that we are so close to reaching this goal.
No other trainer will get the support from the fans and the management Daum got.
Now we are probably back to changing our coaches at least once a year

according to the ARD possible candidates are Slomka, Skibbe and
Funkel. I don`t think either candidate would survive here long. Well at least Slomka has shown that he can work under difficult conditions. So he would propably be my favourite of those.
Icke is not even Co-trainer here, he is Technique-trainer, therefore it is pretty unlikely that he becomes our new coach. Perhaps he will be promoted to Co-trainer though and Koch will become our new coach

I don't think Koch will be the answer. Skibbe has had some success in the past, but we need to give him at least three years to build up something.
I can't believe Daum packed up and left. Any more to the story?

I am shocked as well and was not prepared for this. Although it is understandable that Daum moves to Fenerbahce (it's his second love after Cologne) it should not have been this way.
After all we will meet him again soon, when Ümit Özat last match for the FC will be played. I am very sad...
I hope Meyer is going to find a better coach than those offered. Out of those three I would vote for Slomka as well, but none of them is anywhere close to be my favorite. I doubt Koch is staying, he said once that he will only work with Daum for the FC.
Is Frank Schaefer ready for the first team ?!
I agree to cookiely that we are going to change our coach once a year again. And yes, no other coach is going to get the support that Daum got. If something is not working out right the coach gets blamed fast.
Guess I am just overreacting now being shocked and so on, but I see us battling the relegation even worse this coming season.

Don't be so glum. The next coach we sign may be the best coach we have ever had. You just can't tell in the modern game. Daum's a great coach, but there is someone out there better. Also, you don't leave your #1 for your #2, you leave your #2 for your #1 - and that's what he's done. Good for him, but now is the time to move on and look ahead.

That we'll sign a great coach? Well odds are not in our favor, but didn't Klopp agree to terms last year before Daum re-signed?
Who is the next Klopp?

the problem is that almost half the league is looking for a new coach right now.
we compete with clubs that are more ambitioned than we are or/and are way more advanced in their negotiations with a new coach. We aren`t in a good position right now.
Also we can`t sign new players until we have our new coach.
well right now the hottest candidate seems to be Skibbe.
:( He is far from being my first choice. He lacks charisma and has never really been succesful over a longer period of time anywhere he was. In addition to that his longest stint was in Leverkusen, which will offend some fan groups. He propably won`t even make it to the winter break before the fans and the media force him to resign.
