I just saw this last night. Man, o man what a great movie. If I understand correctly it's Olmi's 2nd major feature (though IMDB makes it seem like he'd been making films for a while). There are some complaints that the pace is a little plodding, and while I guess that's true if you're addicted to shoot 'em ups, it seemed perfect for the story that was being told. There were some absolutely incredible shots to boot.

Anyone else familiar with this 60s gem? With the director Earmanno Olmi?
