Juventude won this clasico gaúcho to extend its winning streak to 5 in a row. The visitors from Caxias do Sul - led by former Inter manager Ivo Wortman - were not the least bit intimidated by the large crowd of Inter supporters in Beira-Rio and were the deserving winners. Juve's hot streak have brought them up to third place on 30 points, while the up-and-down Inter are stuck in 9th place with 27 points.

Inter manager Joel Santana finally had at his disposal his "dream attack" of Nilmar (returning after a 40 day absence with an injury) and the on-form Danilo. But the two youngsters obviously have a few kinks to work out before Colorado are next in action away to São Caetano on Thursday.

Internacional once again failed to pick up any points outside of Beira-Rio, losing tonight to São Caetano 2-0 in Anacleto Campanella. The victory welcomed Péricles Chamusca in his debut as SC's manager. With the win, Azulão leap-frogged over Inter in the standings with 29 points, while Colorado remain stuck on 27 points, 12 points behind leaders Santos.

I couldn't believe how many yellow cards were handed out during this match-up...

Yeah, should've been an easy win for São Paulo, but I'm kinda glad that Internacional held them to a tie.

The mess at Beira-Rio continues. 5th game in a row without a win. It seems like only yesterday that Colorado was in the running for a spot in next year's Copa Libertadores, now they are dropping rapidly in the standings. Last night's debacle leaves them in 13th place with high flying Ponte Preta coming up on Sunday.

The big news this week was the dismissal of former captain Alex in the light of his criticisms following the loss to Sao Caetano f manager Joel Santana's 3-5-2 formation. Ater a meeting with team directors and some of the team's senior players, Alex was released from the team. He then publically charged that Inter was a team divided into two cliques, one made up of senior players like Sangaletti, Clemer and Vinicius who, according to Alex, actually run the team. The other group comprised of younger players who keep quite and follow the lead of the older men. This charge was vigorously denied by Clemer and Sangaletti and later laughingly dismissed by youngsters Nilman and Danilo.

Regardless of the validity or not of the charges, Inter certainly plays like a team going off in 11 different directions. The team never lacks for effort - garra - but often plays without entrosamento - teamwork. Santana has not been an improvement on the team, leading some of the toricda to demand the return of Lori Sandri. From what I've seen of Inter on Globo Internacionl, I wonder if even Flipao Scolari could improve Inter.

It used to be that Inter could not win on the road, now they can't win at home either. What used to be a roller-coaster of win-lose for Colorado has degenerated into a straight losing proposition.

I watched Inter lose today vs. Ponte Preta. I was hoping to get a glipse of Danilo, who is Inter's leading scorer. Why didn't he play??? Has he been transfered to a club in Europe?? Please any 411 will help.

Thanks for the 411. Well, Inter made a fight out of it, but the goalie f-ed up for the first goal. Stupid idiot. Good match to say the least. Good luck for Inter, but it doesn't look like the Libertadores is in the cards for them.

Inter ended its run of 7 games without a win and broke the tabu of never having defeated Paraná Clube in Curitiba - and saved Joel Santana's job, for now at least - with this nail biting 2-1 win. Bottom feeders Paraná struck first and it looked like another vergonha for Colorado. But 2 late goals from Gavilán and Nilmar allowed them to leave town with 31 points. Next game is vs. Figueirense in Beira-Rio on the 16h of August

today's game opened the returno of the Brasileiro - 24 games down, 22 to go. I was surprised when Globo Internacional chose this game to send out for its Saturday afternoon jogo. Usually the games are either the big Rio vs. Sao Paulo clasicos, the Rio or SP intra-city clasicos. When a team from the Interior is involved, its always vs. ateam from the big two or Belo Horizonte. This is the first time i can remember GI passing a game involving two teams from the "Interior". And if you support Inter-RS, it was quite a game.

This Figu team is a far cry from the side that hammered Inter 3-0 in Florianopolis to start off the Brasilerio 2004. They very recently sold their three best players, Sérgio Manoel, Carlos Alberto and Filipe, to Europe. While these players were present, Figu was good enough to lead the league as recently as the 11th round. It was inevitable that the small side from Santa Caterina would not be able to sustain this, but still they were a good side.

But today Inter gave their supporters - who once again turned out in great numbers at Beira-Rio despite the string of 7 games without a win that was broken with a mid-week 2-1 victory over Parana Clube - a lot to cheer about. Not only was the scoreline satisfying, but so was the performance of the team as a whole and by players like Chiquino, Labarthe (adeus, Marabá!!), Fernandão, Élder Granja and Gavilán. Even the xodo (golden boy) of the torcida, the talented but oft-injured Diego came on the set up Nilmar's 4th goal.

With the win, O Colorado are provisionally in 8th place on 34 points. The team travels north to face Palmeiras mid-week.
