"Notes: Kenny Cooper has returned to Dallas after spending the past week in USMNT camp, and participated in full training with the team today. Andre Rocha, who arrived in Dallas this morning, was at the PHP facilities but did not practice."

What probably happened was Bradley told him that his starters were going to be Ching and Donovan, and the bench forwards will be Davies and Altidore. That's my guess. So he's doing Dallas a favor by releasing him.

How do we know that it was on FCD's insistence? What if Bradley cut him?
Sure does seem strange though...

Yep. Cooper has a ladder to climb with the NT right now.

Cooper just didn't do enough to warrant a call-up.

I wouldn't put it quite that way.
He has scored 2 goals in his 4 caps and has yet to play a full 90-minute game. And how many of the other forwards are regular starters and consistent goalscorers for their club teams?
If Cooper's on the outside it's only just.

How do you know?
Because he didn't get called up...
Which sounds like a flip answer, but regardless of whether we think he's done enough or not, in the eyes of the one guy that matters, he didn't.
This time.

Altidore and Davies are ahead of Cooper at this point. Davies probably won't make the final 18 though.

Oh for crying out loud! Davies is still in camp and Cooper is out?! Really? Even after Davies's performance against Sweden?

Exactly. And I know he didn't do enough because he didn't do anything against Sweden besides miss the sitter you just pointed out.

Um becuase its blatantly obvious. I dont know what the surprise is here, we know Ching, Jozy and Donovan are gonna be called in. So Davies and Cooper were battling for the last forward spot on this roster. Davies won. One could argue that maybe Cooper showed better v Sweden but I dont see why we need to be throwing around conspiracy theories about FC Dallas 'ruining his career'.

The whole point is cover, not combos.
If Ching goes down, who takes his place in that role? Altidore?
If Donovan goes down? Dempsey moves inside and Sacha comes on, or Sacha in a straight swap? I can't see Davies slotting into Donovan's role at all--he just isn't anywhere near good enough.

It's one thing to miss just 1 chance, but it's wholly another to miss almost every single one you had, i.e. Davies. Ching/Cooper was never going to get you that many chances. Cooper likes to come back into the midfield a lot, and actually CHALLENGE for a ball, whereas Ching likes to hold and distribute. Cooper needs a couple wingers to work with him, or someone to push up high in the attack. When he gets enough room to shoot, he's got a very tough shot to stop, even from outside the box. Afterall, he's 2 goals in what? Just 3 or 4 appearances.

From the practices I watched at HDC Cooper works very hard and is very strong but stuggled with his touch and missed a lot of shots.
Davies was quicker, had more finesse.
In a real physical grinding match I would want Coop. In a wide open attacking kind of game I would want a Davies type.

Cooper needs to give Spector's mom a call. Methinks a bit o Ching voodoo is in order.

Ching will start. Davies will come on if the US is ahead to chase the ball around. Altidore will come on late if US is behind or tied.

Sooo, you're hoping to curse our starting striker with an injury?
Now that's what I call a fan :)
