inspired by the 'tickets' thread ...

just a thought here, but would any of the yank bigsoccer yids be at all interested in co-ordinating a match at the lane next fall? it looks as though a few of us take in matches as we can - getting over once or twice a year, perhaps - but would anyone be interested in arranging it that a few (or more) could do the same match - including a pint or two before and after in one of the high road's finer establishments?

it occurs to me that i've co-ordinated footy meetings in blighty with a few folks from message boards of four different clubs - even a few of the BS gooners - but never any of the people from this (my longest standing) forum. and as the subject of travel has come up ...

so, would anyone be interested? no huge deal. i'm not talking about co-ordinating flights, or hotels, or anything (though individuals could do so, of course, if inclined); but just looking at the fixture list, batting it around, and coming up with some match that a handfull of us would like to take in. it sounds like quite a few here have never been to the lane, and if you've not, i'd strongly encourage any spurs fan to do so - particularly as it may not be around much longer. as stated on the other thread, it can all be done fairly cheaply, if done right; and obviously there is a world of other reasons why a few days in london can be great fun. it's not complex, but those of us who are more familiar can lend some logistical assistance, if requested, i'm sure.

matches this spring could be considered, as well, although it looks like a couple of folks are already commited to their dates; and some folks might need more time for logistics ... saving money, passports, cheap airfare, etc. so, any interest?

just throwing it out there.

With my school schedule, it would have to be in August or not until winter-ish.

I'd be interested, but it does depend somewhat on what happens with this house the lady and I are trying to buy right now. We'd probably need a few extra ducats if it all goes through as planned, which *may* preclude a trip overseas.

Great idea, pook. This is definitely something to keep in mind. I've never been to a match overseas, let alone one at the Lane. It would be a hell of a first-time experience...

I would also be tentatively in.

Next big vacation for me (after this trip to the Lane) will hopefully be the World Cup in South Africa -- which may require some hunkering down in the financial department... but I may be able to squeeze in another trip over to London in the fall.

Time to fess up - I go to England maybe once a year, but the time is spent visiting family. Relatives are spread around the southeast from Suffolk to Hampshire but none in London itself. That plus the hassle of getting tickets has prevented me from getting to the Lane in many, many years.

I'd be in for a game trip, that would force me to do it, and I need to get there again before it goes. I'm running short on Marmite too :p

well, this whole thing's coming apart before it's even started. :D

obviously, it's just a thought, and the whole thing is tenuous, at best. but still, i'm sure i'll be planning a trip in the fall, as usual, so what i will do is just communicate my procedures on here, and if anyone's got any interest - and any feedback - they can just share it ... and we'll see how things play out.

as i said, once the fixture lists are set, i start prioritizing; so i can just post our fixtures (along with additional match considerations, updated airfares, etc.), and people can register interest as they see fit.

who knows, maybe something will work out.

After the trip this April, I won't be going anywhere in England until least '09-2010. Well, unless I win a major poker tournament online, that is.

As of right now I'm seriously planning a month vacation to london where I'll try and hit as many games of any level as possible.

I really wish they played in the summertime. I probably won't be able to go to England, except for Christmas, because I start law school in August. Maybe a spring or Thanksgiving break I could make it.

My balls still hurt after my vasectomy. The dissolvable stitches have, er, dissolved, but the infernal plastic ones..... I would go to the Dr and have him/her take 'em out, but I think I'll do it myself.

And as for the actual operation itself...watching the needle approaching my sac and then that pinch, and the feeling of the liquid being injected and filling up...really hurt. But although I couldn't feel anything, I could hear the snipping noises and smell the burning.

And while the first bollock was bad, it was knowing what was coming up for the second. And the Dr was working too quickly and got into the Vas Deferens before the anaesthetic had properly taken hold, so it felt like needles were being driven into it, which was exactly what was happening.

It was very painful, and I don't recommend it. On the plus side, it was free. G-d bless the NHS.

Anyway, I'm up for meeting up with any of you for a pint of beer if you're able to pop over from the US, except Hauler. I'd get him a lemonade. :p

Ouch. Way to ruin a feel-good thread. My balls hurt every time I read that description, which will hopefully be never again.

Well, to update you with that, I was able to see a Surgeon at work today. I do wish he had worn gloves, but after he had rolled my bollocks and looked at my stitches he said, "You've left them in for too long and I don't have a stitch-cutter on me."

I was deflated, but aim to call my GP at 0800am (its 0613am here).

Here's what they look like;
