I'm thinking of going to see a game in April, if I can get the tickets. Anyone else interested?

I'm gonna try for both the West Ham game (April 11th) and the Newcastle game (April 18th). We'll see what happens.

It's been years since I've been to the Lane, so anyone whose gone recently and who has some advice, it would be much appreciated.

Well, I just saw that there are still small numbers of tickets available for both the Arsenal and Chelsea games, which makes me hopeful about the West Ham game...

the last time that i went to west ham (at the lane), there was nothing left but the west stand by the time i went to order. and i had a membership, too, so i can't imagine the odds will be great if you're waiting for them to go onsale to the general public. of course, we weren't nearly as crap as we are now*, so maybe that'll help diminish demand.

when do tickets go onsale?

*november, 2005, if i remember correctly. mido scored early in the first half, and we dominated all the way, squandering two or three of the simplest scoring opportunities, only to have anton ferdinand score off a corner on literally the last touch of the match.

alright, SF, i've had a look, and west ham goes onsale to members on the 17th.

if you've already got your airfare sorted, and you'll be in london for both west ham and newcastle, it is obligatory that you make at least one of these. i suspect that you'll be able to land one for the mags without too much trouble, though 'stam could be iffy. but if it looks bad for either, here's what can be done ...

you can monitor members' sales throughout the week on the website. if it looks like it's not going to make it to general sale, i can email you my membership number, and you can buy a ticket online under my name. just make sure that you have it held for pickup, and not posted to me. you'll be able to get it, then, before the match, at the paxton road box office. you'll have to purchase it on your own credit card, of course, not simply because my generosity doesn't extend to paying your way :D, but because you'll need to present the purchasing card at the window when you pick up the ticket - without it, they won't hand it over.

now, here's one more important bit: whenever i've purchased a ticket for a derby match (west ham & chelsea) that did not make it to general sale, i've been made to show my membership card at the gate. i don't know that they do this for every derby, but just to be sure, i'll need to post you my membership card to insure that you get in. i presume that it's all a part of keeping the clubs' fans segregated during the more 'heated' derbies. at any rate, you can then mail it back to me when you get back to the states.

all that said, if, as you imply, the arse and chelsea are going to general sale, i can't imagine that these two won't. and if that's the case, just establish an account with the official site, wake up early on the first day of general sales, and pull the trigger.

Sweet. Thanks for that Pook. I may well take you up on your offer of using your membership number to get my ticket.

Let me get my ducks in order and I'll PM you before the 17th. Your help is very much appreciated.

As much as I want a new stadium, I simply had to get to the Lane one more time before any (further) changes are made!

Pook, next season i plan on making 1 trip over there for maybe a weekend. How difficult would it be for me to get a ticket for Arsenal at the Lane?

you'll want to get a 'one hotspur' membership. with that, you should be ok. tickets go onsale to members ten day prior to going on general sale - and the derby will sell out well before the ten days are up. hell, it'll sell out before the first day is up. so you'll want to be up nice and early on the first day that they go onsale, online and ready to go.

without a membership, you will surely have some 'aftermarket' options, but you'll pay well over the top. and worse, unlike over here, every 'second hand' ticket will be technically illegal, and there are all kinds of nasty things that can happen there. i'm not saying it's likely you'll end up in legal trouble (though it's happened), or anything, but if a ticket is stolen, and makes its way onto the market, it's rightful owner will have been able to report it, get a new ticket issued, and yours will be invalidated (needless to say, you won't get a refund ;)). hell, it doesn't actually have to have been stolen - the owner (if he's bastard enough) could report it stolen, sell it, himself, get a new ticket, and still attend the match. now, that may sound alarmist, and i'm sure that countless hundreds of folks attend matches on touted tickets every week, without incident. but, you'd still be rolling the dice, and if you're going all that way for one match ...

basicly, i always go on the cheap, which means i've usually got to secure my airfare before match tickets go onsale. thus committed, i have to be absolutely sure that i'll get in - so i consider a membership essential. now, i'm not saying there's no other way to do it, and for most matches, it's seldom a problem; but the arse will definitely NOT go onsale to the general public. so i can't really help you on your other options for that particular game.

josh (electrickeeper) did the NLD away last season on 'second-hand' tickets without incident. he might be able to recommend the service that worked for him. probably others could advise here, as well. but i'll wager that the price you'll pay for any touted seat will be greater than the face value and membership price, combined. so if you know you're going to be in london for the derby, i'd strongly advice the membership. hell, you'll also get some tacky gifts like a keyring, lapel pin, and a dvd - they'll even send you a birthday card. win/win, eh?

pook,
what level member are you?

just lillywhite.

frankly, the only justification for my membership is just what i described above - the ticket window. i didn't join until '05, and so prior to that, i would have to schedule my trips around what were, in all honesty, less desirable matches. and even when the matches i now select are not as great - such as wigan last season - the membership guarantees that i'll get in the park lane end, which usually fills up before going on general sale.

frankly, i wouldn't advocate a membership to an american fan for any other reason than ticket availability. they're not cheap, and they don't do much else for you. nor am i inclined to recommend any level higher than lillywhite (the lowest).

that said, there is one caveat - beginning this year, the club began offering one day of ticket sales to bronze (and above) members, prior to the first day for lillywhites. i doubted that this would affect my ability to get tickets for any one match, so i didn't upgrade. but this is particularly relevant to yiddoinakron's inquiry, because if there is any one match that that would sell out prior to availability to lillywhite members, the NLD is it. i meant to monitor it this season, to see if the bronzes sold it out on day one, but frankly, i forgot. i believe i'll inquire on COYS to see how it played out, because if the arse match sold out on that first bronze day, just getting a lillywhite would obviously be poor advice for yiddoinakron.

damn, man, don't put that up here! if tron finds out i have that kind of clout, there'll be no end to his bitching at me for not signing huntelaar.

Si. Although it was at the Emershites. And Bendtner got the winner as soon as he came up.

Still a great experience.

I also earned "Kasey Keller' as a nickname.

I'll just leave that story to legend...

My first experience at White Hart Lane will happen the weekend of Apr 11 v. West Ham. Should be an amazing atmosphere that will no doubt make me want to make (at least) a semi-annual pilgrimage over there for a weekend to watch a match.

ok, apparently, i had it a bit wrong. the club only releases 1000 tickets to bronze members a day early. so lillywhites do have access to every match.

that said, if akron (or any lillywhite member), wants a ticket for the derby, he would do well to wake up and be at his computer, ready to go, at 4:30am (eastern), when the ticket office opens (that's 9:30 in london). the website will be very slow with all the traffic, and a phone call on that morning would have you on hold for a long time (at international rates, that can be pretty pricey), so get online early. putting it off for a few hours more sleep could cost one his chance.

No, Im going on that Premier Sports Group Tour that I talked about in the other forum.

Spurs v West Ham (alternate match if I didn't want to go to that one would have been Chelsea v Bolton) a Sunday Premier League match, a Monday Premier League match, a midweek Champions League Q-Final, and the Saturday FA Cup Semi-Final at Wembley.

Just curious, but how can you guys afford airfare to England just for a match? I booked months in advance and it cost me about $900 roundtrip.

Yeah, I don't have that kind of disposable income :)

Speaking for myself, I'm booking my flight using only credit card points. I use my personal card a lot for work (and get reimbursed) so I have a shitload of points. One of the nice perks of my job... But irrespective of that fact, you can get flights to London for as low as $400. You just have to go during a low season (like right now) and fly from an airport with direct flights.

If my flight didn't get over there Easter Weekend, I'd have only paid $500 as opposed to $700. Actually, the trip is a posthumous gift from my Grandmother as she left a bit of money and instead of being sensible and getting rid of all credit card debt, I decided to take this trip.
